Default Time for bed...

What time do your children go to bed on school nights and how old are they?

My 10 yr old is trying to negotiate a later bedtime... I just need a bit of 'compare and contrast' from you guys if that's ok.

Thanks.

My 10 year old goes at 9 and his sister who is 12 goes at 9:30. They are allowed to read in bed for 20 minutes and then lights out, mouths closed. Any needing to go for a wee or get a drink MUST be done in the 20 minutes between bedtime and lights out.

I'm afraid my childrens' mother is a bit of a hard liner when it comes to bedtime. Or to paraphrase my daughter "you're not nearly as nice as my friends' mothers!!!" Sure there are swear words under her breath but she wouldn't dare let me hear.

Well I'm fairly hard line too... It's the teachers who have to cope with the tired kids the next day... I could never do that job.

My 7 year old goes to bed between 9 and 9.30pm school nights.
My 11 year old goes to bed at 10pm school nights.
15 year old goes later than me!!!!! 11pm even later. She's always on MSN to her mates in UK around midnight.

But they get up at 7am just fine.

So then, do you banish them to their rooms after a certain time or something? My hub and I eat together much later than the kids do, most nights, so if they're up and about and you're trying to watch a DVD or something, what do you do?

No the kids are always with us, eating, watching TV. They only go in their bedrooms to sleep.
But they do all get along and very rarely cause us any problems...touch wood.

They never play out either

They go up at 8 and lights out at 9.30

My 17 year old however, comes and goes as he pleases - within reason during the week

None have problems getting up but I find the water pistol filled with icy water works wonders if they dont appear after they are called twice

Me and hubbs tend to eat later after the kids are in bed - just kind of peace time for us

I feel like a bad Mum now

My 7 year old goes at 7:30 and my 14 year old goes at 9pm (he went at 8:30 up until 4 weeks ago)

When my 18 year old was at home and still going to school, he went to bed at 9:30 (which he did from being 15).

I don't really feel bad, I know that if they don't go to bed at them times then A - They'll be tired at school the next day and B - I'd kill em cos I've had enough of them by then

Think its important to have a bit of time together - even if we do end up having a barney

Seriously though I think when you have kids you need to make time for each other (fingers down throat at this point)(or is it round one anothers)

We usually eat as a family but I think I like the idea of a nice quiet dinner together when the kids are tucked in. Some alone time with just the adults. Now there's a novel idea!

That's it, Wendy. I'm on the phone to the authorities first thing tomorrow morning about your bad parenting skills. Sending your children to bed at a decent hour. Disgusting.

When my boy was little he used to go to bed at 6 - straight after neighbours. Poor kid used to panick though when he heard the theme tune at lunchtime

I get to that stage - if I have had enough of them I banish them upstairs earlier - people next door dont wanna hear me start if they piss me off
