Default Thinking about taking our car.

Hi and Happy New Year to All.

We are currently in the big wait having applied in Sept 08 for a 175 visa.....i know keep waiting.

We are considering taking our Honda CRV with us when we finally get our visa and hopefully sell our house. The car is 9yrs old but is very, very relaible and we are toying with the idea of shipping it out with our belongings.

Anyone done this/know of anyone who has?
Is this a good/bad idea, costs etc!!

All opinions welcome.

regards
AllanDebnJack.

Why?

You cant put your belongings in it. You will need seperate boxes
Have you looked at the cost of taking a car? I dear say the cost is likely too exceed the market value of your 9 year old CRV.

Search under BigApe for his comprehensive guide he recently published or PM him direct. He has a spreadsheet to work out the cost and has advice based on his own experience.

When I read the title I wondered, "Is it a Ferrarri? Is it a Rolls? Perhaps it's a rare Bugatti?"

Honda CRV? Come on.

Don't bother, by the time you have paid cleaning costs, shipping fees and import duty, then have to add the cost of paying extra on insurance & servicing as your car is an import plus the fact that no one will buy it off you (again as it is an import) it will be cheaper to sell it in the UK and buy the same over here.

A quick search of carsales.com.au shows 1999/2000 CRV's ranging from $6000 to $15,000 depending on model, km's and private/dealer sale.
