Things I would be happy to wave goodbye to

Re: Things I would be happy to wave goodbye to
I think that Sydney is just as bad. There are lights at every possible opportunity, and most sets take ages to change. On my route home from work the set at Victoria Road/The Crescent take about 4 1/2 minutes between changes. And this is pretty typical of most junctions.
London was much easier. The frequency with which the lights chcnged was much higher, so you were certainly sat around waiting for less time.

Thanks everyone for listening to my whinge!! I think I just need to settle, and let a bit of time pass....I AM glad I left Adealide, I was comfortable there but slowing dying!
Here in Sydney there are many more options....and I can get my citizenship in Dec which means I can study etc...so it will get better, phoned the bank yesterday and they said they'd lend me 400k to buy a place!! blimey!
The traffic light thing is difficult to explain till you experience it, there are very few roundabouts in Oz but endless ridiculous lights that take hours to change even as a pedestrian! bonkers!
Sadly i do miss Pompey, I did even when i lived in London, itll always be home I suppose and the poeple I love are there...
woowaa i have PMd you!

Home is where the heart lies, but if the heart lies, where is home?

[there were plenty of things that annoyed me about the UK too, just not the same ones as here.

Spot on! I've moaned at times on BE about stuff that irritates me in Oz (most ridiculously, clothes hangers, which I think I've mentioned about 10 times) but at the same time the things that annoy me only annoy me BECAUSE THEY NEVER ANNOYED ME BEFORE i.e. it wasn't an issue in the UK. e.g. expensive books. All my life I've enjoyed access to a splendid variety of cheap books. It was something I took for granted really. But that situation is NO MORE since I came to Oz. Hence I'm really annoyed about the price of books because it never annoyed me before.
On the other hand, there are some things that used to annoy me that NO LONGER ANNOY me because they don't figure in Oz (disclaimer: well so far)
e.g. getting up to face wintry blasts in the dark WITH THE BLOODY MOON STILL HIGH IN THE SKY in winter - this one is probably the top one. Or being at work for on the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of one week in May when 'summer has officially arrived'. Knowing that inevitably the weather will revert to rain in time for the weekend and in fact that is our total quota of summer for the year. (And believe me the weather in NI/Scotland is at the bottom of the UK league).
Not to undermine your feelings/experience Pompey Blonde. Hope things improve for you: thumbup:
