Is there a fee for getting ABN?
I need to get an ABN as I am going to be working for a company that require me to invoice them for work I do. The company need me to have ABN. I realise I can apply for ABN on-line with ATO but do I pay for this? Also do I submit tax return after July in same way as an employee would?

No fee to get a ABN.
Any income you make from being a Sole Trader (which is what you will be) is declared on your tax return. If you incur expenses in the course of that work, keep receipts as they may be tax-deductible.

re the ABN. I signed up on-line and it was free.
re the tax return. As you will be self employed (I think anyway) even more reason to submit tax return than an employee. Everyone submits a tax return here.
I would recommend a tax agent. Not one off the telly. Get a locally recommended one. They are inexpensive and could save you a bundle.
