However I feel that there should be rules as to how much a player can yell on court because it affects the opponent's performance directly. Even I lose my concentration when the opponent says a word like "sh*t", "yeeeh" and end up making unforced error. :( |

Its true though. If some migrant wins laurels in any field for Australia, he gets great respect and the proud 'Australian' status. |

Are they? They might be, but I haven't seen this confirmed by anyone. Either way, it's irrelevant. They've made it clear where their true loyalties lie. They're not attacking the Czechs because Australians have a grudge against Czechs. They're attacking the Czechs because they're Croats with a grudge against Czechs.
Of course they're Australians. But they're Croat Australians. The whole problem stems from Croatian antipathy towards Czechoslovakia. It does not stem from Australian antipathy towards Czechoslovakia. That's why - and follow me closely here - the only people causing this trouble are people from the Croatian community.

Incorrect. A few years ago it was the Serbs, the year before that is was the Cypriots. In NSW Soccer league it was the Greeks. In the NRL for the Bulldogs it was the Lebanese...and so on and so on....
As far as I am concerned the press don't need to say they are Australians. It's a given. |

I think Vash was talking about the tennis and this specific episode.

Ok, well if the subject is only tennis then there was the episode with the Serbs 3 years ago and also the Cypriots the year Baghdatis got to the final. Either way his statement that it is ONLY ever the Croats is incorrect.

This does raise an interesting question as Australia and Australians claim to have a true melting pot of cultures and people and also, supposedly the most accepting of these different cultures. Yet, when these nasty incidents occur they are no longer Aussies, instead they are all pigeon-holed as Lebanese, Croatians, Serbs, Greeks, Cypriots etc etc.

True, you have to watch a few episodes of Fat Pizza to realise this. These various flavours of [sic] "wog" often refer to anglo/celtic people as "skips" which is perjorative. (comes from skippy as in the bush kangaroo)

Re: Tennis hooligans
Regardless of what race anyone is, the darned umpire needs to tell them all to
shut the hell up. Listening to everyone in the crowd screaming and shouting whilst the players try to concentrate is a pain in the arse and it ruins the match. And Lleyton Hewitt should try wearing tennis clothes instead of soccer strip... plonker. At least he's taken that dumb hat off. Now y'all just shut the hell up! :frown: Don't you know the tennis is on? :D |
