Taking a Motorhome to Oz
#18
It is annoying, however does the same thing happen between the Home Nations ? I forget ?
It's a way of justifying, what in my mind is the needless state governments.... Mind you do we need to replace the state governments with super councils like the UK system or not ? could be a poison chalice.
There is definitely one tier of government to many here IMO.
BTW, I'm going to go out of my way to look at these UK motor homes next trip back.... you never know, especially now I've half an idea whats important on them for Aus conditions.
Pity about your arrival timing from my POV MC

One thing you just cannot do in Aus is set off and hope for the best. You have to be thoroughly prepared. It is a big country and you might be stranded miles from anywhere in killing conditions and out of phone range.

It could be prudent to take drinking water and a Jerry can of fuel, and a fully charged mobile phone, but thats about it. Most people with Motor homes would already have that. I guess you do need to know exactly where the bitumen stops though.... That aspect could catch newcomers to the country out.
Off road or rather on the dirt roads, it's a totally different kettle, there you do need to plan and have a very good idea of what your doing. Most people with Motor homes don't venture on to the dirt roads for any lengthy period of time, other than through national parks.

Have read that regarding cars, caravans, ovens! you name it.
Pity, USA caravans are a third of the price for top of the line everything, compared to 1990 fit out here.

I know it's bloody bonkers! Even the education system differs....What the heck is that all about!

Son finished high school in qld november 2013, goes to UNI in melb in February 2015 and will still be one of the youngest.

There is something incredibly satisfying about having a sneaky whinge in hushed tones to another pom (with them nodding knowingly) while keeping it quiet enough so that the Aussies can't hear you.

When is your next trip back?
how does that work?Lol.........I think whinging comes with age too,

I've noticed my in-laws and parents doing it much more.......it drives me mad at times!

Actually, for me it's more of a grumpy old man cynical observation than whinging. My OH doesn't whinge at all really.

You know what, my husband whinges more than me too, a hell of a lot more actually. I said to him the other day, ' You do realise that you are turning into a grumpy, moaning old git don't you?' He laughed but it's bloody true. He better book his ideas up, otherwise he's down the road!

God forbid! As much as I love them, I don't want to be like them.

By the way we have a motorhome for sale here in the UK if anyone out there is interested.
Sleeps 4 excellent condition inside and out if anyone is interested PM me please........it's going cheap. Too bloody cheap!
but needs must.

You focused on the weak spot. Okay, she whinges a bit
You sound like an old married couple already.

For serious outback travel you'd probably rent a satellite phone, checking in to a friend every 24 hours by text with your latest location, if on any day you don't check in an alarm is raised.

Not so much the case with motorhomes, but certainly true with caravans. It's difficult to get a good 4/5 berth and an on-board shower room/toilet is rarer still.
