My hubby had calcific tendonitis in his shoulder for years and ended up having an op earlier this year, unfortunately his was on the inside of his tendon so he had to have it cut open and removed, good news is that he is almost back to 100% and the pain has gone. Have you had any xrays or an ultrasound.

Wear and tear they said. I wouldn't have the cortisone jabs again as I bled quite alot after them and my elbow still hurts now and then. Penny would have to ask her doc' what's best for her, but I sure as hell wouldn't have them in my shoulder, although I've got to do something 'cos I'm almost disabled some days and the ironing is piling up.

Not sure what you're taking for analgesia but might be worth trying "mersyndol" (or generic equivalent). I find it's the only thing that gives me relief when my shoulder goes.

Also I would suggest an osteopath if you have a good one near you (DO degree is best) - I found them much more helpful than just physio manipulation.

Thanks to you for jogging my memory. Mersyndol was the name I was looking for. I take the pharmacy brand now, both the day and night tablets and find them to be the only thing that gives me any relief at all.

The xrays showed nothing. The ultrasound showed nothing because, as the operator person put in her report "we were unable to see any problem due to the fact that the patient was unable to position her arm as required due to the pain" or words to that effect No shit sherlock

Will have a word with physio next week. I've only been going twice a week for a couple of weeks and there is definite improvement, just the day after treatment it feels like crap. I can lift it a couple of inches higher than I could before.

Went down to the pharmacy this morning and explained it all and after signing my life away have been given Voltaren. My doc should have a letter Monday or Tuesday and she'll call me back in to probably prescribe something else.

Thanks for the good wishes and the advice. Have taken it all on board. Physio guy is going to hate me

I've treated loads of people with this horrible condition that unfortunately has a mind of its own and what they call self limiting ie nothing much other than time has been shown to be effective.

What is very useful though is to get spinal manipulation from osteopath/chiro or physio who actually manipulates (cracks!!) both neck and thoracic spine. This alongside the shoulder movement work just makes sure that other problems don't creep in as you have been so immobile for so long. The physio work usually just keeps you as mobile as possible whilst allowing mother nature to take it's course....although some physios claim to ''speed up the healing'' ..damn clever if they can.

Acupuncture can be useful for some but you should know in 3-4 sessions if it is having an effect. If not don't waste your money!! All you can really do is take decent pain relief again different people prefer different stuff.

So pain relief, spinal manipulation, time and buckets of alcohol. Blow jobs are definitely contraindicated in this condition.

Hope it doesn't last too long and a horrible statistic to finish is that there is an increased likelihood that you will develop frozen shoulder in the other shoulder within 5 years (can't remember figure but get all the drinking in while you can!!)

I like the buckets of alcohol bit. OH hates me drinking, so I'll show him this and tell him you are a specialist, so you should know.
