Really appreciate your ideas. Coast route is the best but are very slow roads. Nice seaside places to break your journey though if you are not in a rush. The inland route via Canberra is VERY VERY VERY VERY boring  But quicker. If you have time take the coastal route, if limited time go inland. |

We are not in rush. I love to take the coastal road. What are the scenaries in coastal road. We may able to spend one night on d way if required.

One thing to remember in Melbourne is at certain times to turn right on certain roads involving trams you have to be in the left hand lane  good luck:)

Try http://www.grandpacificdrive.com.au/ for the first bit. Be warned about the traffic queues at Christmas on the coast road and all the police speed checks (double demerits) and RBTs every 10kms.

I reckon save that coastal route for a time when you can take a week to do it... there are a fair few places worth stopping at. One night wouldn't do that route justice. Ergo come the quick way and use the time to look at Melbourne, you'll need it. |
Re: Sydney to Melbourne Drive.........
Could maybe travel to take a detour via North East country Victoria. Some very beautiful little towns around there.

Re: Sydney to Melbourne Drive.........
Thanks. It seems better to avoid the CBD.:p

I actually live in Shellharbour, so I'm on the Pacific drive route. It's a very scenic route, but if I was taking it all the way to Melbourne, I'd be thinking about making a couple of stops to get anything out of the trip. Without that, it's just a bloody long way on slow roads, but if it's only a one-stop trip I'd try and make it somewhere near Batemans Bay or possible down as far as Eden. Once you get beyond Batemans Bay it starts to get very rural and there's not a massive amount of places to stop for the night. Probably the two prettiest towns on the route are Kiama and Berry, both worth stopping in and stretching your legs. |
