Sydney or Melbourne

Right guys I need some advice!!!!
If you have the possibility of choosing between living in Sydney or Melbourne earning the same money with the same prospects in each city - which would be your city of choice and why?
I always was useless at making decisions and figure that you lot might have some valuable input.
Thanks all in advance

Melbourne winter can get very very cold, have you gone to Melbourne for a reecie yet, maybe that's what you should, to help you decide.

What type of weather do you prefer first, I personally prefer Melbourne to Sydney, but there others who would prefer Sydney to Melbourne.

I am trying to arrange doing that as we speak...
I don't mind the cold - surely it can't be as cold as the UK!!! The seasonal aspect of Melbourne appealed to me at first and that was my initial destination.
Fate sort of stepped in for a while and hence I am in Sydney but now have to make a serious choice on where I am going to settle....

I have been in Melbourne during winter, & it was much colder than UK cold, or anywhere else, its because of the way they built their houses, no insulations, in fact its warmer to be outside than inside.
I think Melbourne has more to offer, that was the impression I got when I visited both places.
seriously go & check the place out, I prefer Melbourne to Gold Coast too, oh I hate this place.
since I have been here it has rained,

I thought the Gold Coast was the sunshine state!!! Poor you....Can you have a cooling / heating system installed in your house so you can set it a reasonable temp e.g. 20 degrees or so in the winter?? Or is this very expensive?
I will check it out, even then though I think you don't always get a full impression of a place!
Hope some other people respond....
Thanks again - hope the sun starts to shine for you soon..

I've lived in Melbourne for 3 years - and the winters are not as cold as the UK winters
OK, the wind can be cold ....but it is never anywhere near freezing - you have to go upstate for that in the hills and mountains....but that's not Melbourne.
As for the housing ...well, they are built to stay cool ...we have long hot summers here...and the winters are short .... but we are quite advanced here....we have heating, as well as cooling !
I love living here...there is so much to do, and the atmosphere is great.

I love Melbourne for its culture, coffee shops, general friendliness of people, size of the city, trams and of course shopping!! Can't really pass judgement on Sydney, but feel that Melbourne is a very liveable place and you seem to get some great suburbs just out of the CDB area which are affordable.
Would like a nice apartment overlooking Sydney Harbour though....

I noticed the houses were a lot more affordable than Sydney

drink 2 bottles of a decent oz chardonnay, write on an A4 piece of paper in opposing sides sydney & melbourne. Place one empty bottle on A4 paper, spin bottle. Place where bottleneck ends closer is where you should go.

You sit in a group, spin an empty bottle and whoever the bottle lands on has to take off an item of clothing!!!! Game we used to play as teens....
Secret to winning - wear loads of layers i.e. bra, vest, vest top, t-shirt, long sleeved top, jumper etc......
You'd be sweating like mad but your modesty would be protected...
