Good story and thanks for the comment about the photos. You probably won't know a Scottish comedy program called Rab C Nesbitt but in one scene Rab's wife gets all dressed up and when she comes into the room Rab's breath is taken away. He says 'Mary doll, you look (long pause to think so he doesn't say anything too revealing about his feelings) no bad'.
I'd reckon the petrol station was at the start of the A75 at Gretna/Gretna Green. |
Re: SW Scotland photos
I said a while ago I'd post some Lake District. I'm not sure how this will come out as it is 4 photos stitched together so I'm not sure if the dimensions will suit. Here goes (Derwentwater near Keswick):

I'll have to take more pub pics for you. The Kirtle Inn has been closed for business a bit in recent years; I think the guy running it is not the best of businessmen and the loss of your trade probably affected takings!

Thank you again PS fair old ding dong going on re stadiums and soccer/rugby/cricket. Bit of banter - the guy made the mistake too many times of calling me uneducated, knowing little about the sports he professes to be an expert on and keeps banging on how I'm in a Melbourne bubble. |

I seem to remember that George McClellan (US Civil War general) was descended from the MacLellan family who built the castle. Anyone know about this?

Re: SW Scotland photos
Yesterday was a lovely autumnal day; started off with a little fog and no wind, sun broke through and it was clear skies until late afternoon. So here's the view early morning; then down to the tennis club for a hit and took photos at the loch (club is by the loch) then before lunch down to Portling for a walk and back to watch the rugby in the afternoon! It's interesting to compare the Portling ones with those of the week before when the weather wasn't quite as good.

Bladnoch near Wigtown has Scotland's most southerly distillery (nice peaty water off the Galloway Hills running by the front door in the River Bladnoch). It now has an Australian connection as it was taken over 3 months ago by an Aussie when the previous company went into liquidation.
Bladnoch Distillery bought by Australian entrepreneur - BBC News Here's some pics taken at Bladnoch: http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...psrr0qew4v.jpg http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...psy5wpa5n2.jpg http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...pscqmeuiga.jpg http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...pszlfp5bv6.jpg And at Cardoness Castle, Gatehouse of Fleet: http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...ps33h32nfg.jpg http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...pszcqwdsrv.jpg And nice autumn leaves near Laurieston: http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...psdbqjcp9b.jpg |

Some photos from further afield. I had to go up to Edinburgh for a Tennis Scotland meeting so here's some photos in Edinburgh and the lovely countryside between Edinburgh and Moffat on the way back. Arthur's Seat behind Merchants of Edinburgh golf course, Broughton village, River Tweed etc. The light wasn't very good for photography being autumn and mid afternoon:

Re: SW Scotland photos
Thanks for the nice comments. I'm trying a new web hosting service for posting photos and the previous 2 tries produced too wide an image so here's another attempt at a smaller size. Taken at the weekend, you can see how the leaves are rapidly disappearing!

Back to the drawing board for a while until I can get the correct code to post. I tried posting a couple of different photos and it kept showing the same image! ;)
