Once again great Pic's. Took us back to when we sailed up there. We had a catamaran and so could sail right into most places and then let the tide leave us high and dry.

Ahh the memories flood back. Just love that part of the world.

And some miscellaneous ones:

For a recent Wigtown Book Festival someone made this out of old electronic junk and they left it up for a while after the Festival until it was taken to a gallery:

http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...psztqygvyu.jpg

Inside Wigtown Book Shop which is the largest 2nd hand bookshop in Scotland; nice comfy seat by the fire. The inscription reads:

'Give a man fire and he's warm for the day, But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life'. It's about the qualities of a good book and not a licence for the ladies to turn pyromaniacs on their menfolk.

A couple at the village of Dalry. On the steps of the town hall underneath the blossoms and a view of the Glenkens hills and a loch just out of the town.

OK last lot for now:

This is a photo of a picture on the wall at the Visitor's Centre at Threave Castle near Castle Douglas:

A view from Crossmichael, across Loch Ken towards Balmaghie churchyard:

Every Feb/March, Danevale House nr Crossmichael, nr Castle Douglas is open to the public to show off the snowdrops:

Keeping to the floral theme, the crocuses come out in Balmaghie Churchyard just after the snowdrops and Spring is definitely on the way:

Then a little later the daffodils come out (by Port William harbour):

Yes, red squirrels we see often locally but not as often as we used to. Like in many things the Americans (grey) try to take over.

Thanks, yes one of my favourite verses and one of my favourite groups is/was Supertramp. The 'what is life' verse was written by W H Davies who literally was a tramp and his autobiography was entitled 'The autobiography of a supertramp' from which the group took its name (useless facts #367)

Yes, we do cherish the view each day.

Yep, CD. We used to live near Glenlochar to be close to the town and yet away from the hustle and bustle (and the children we teach!). However, last year we made the move into the town and really enjoy it. We are on the road out to Gelston/Auchencairn by the loch as the photos show. We're one of the relatively new houses up the slope in the photo of the CD sign.

The Clonyard Hotel is more popular these days. I think there has been a change of ownership (and cook) so friends who were there recently said they had a good meal there last week. We used to go there in the past when they had a monthly quiz night.

Taken this week at Wigtown. There is a bird sanctuary down by the old harbour (where the River Bladnoch runs into Wigtown Bay, now too silted for any sizeable craft). There is a bird hide with good views over the marshes, the town and to the Galloway hills beyond Newton Stewart and Creetown (the Merrick and Cairnsmore of Fleet are the main hills). In the County buildings (Town Hall) there is an area where you can view the Ospreys and their nest by a TV link to the nest which is somewhere nearby but for obvious reasons the location is secret. So here's some photos down by the harbour, from the bird hide, the view from the County buildings and one shot of a typical Wigtown street scene.

http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...psb4ivzxlp.jpg

http://i1355.photobucket.com/albums/...psbvbqd3bw.jpg

There's huge tides here as the mudflats indicate and when we were there the tide was coming in faster than the river flowing out so there was a bore which was almost strong enough to surf - inland!

Ta, we always think, particularly as you go westwards towards the likes of Wigtown and Whithorn/Isle of Whithorn, Portpatrick, you could almost imagine you are over on the west coast of Ireland. The accent is different over there and they speak of the 'Galloway Irish'. Ironically, in the past they 'encouraged' a lot of people from western Scotland to cross the Irish Sea and a lot of people moved in the opposite direction. It's probably something to do with religion! ;)

There's no denying the Republic of Ireland is the wettest European country, it was on the news yesterday in fact. I didn't use Photoshop to produce the scenes I've posted, we get lovely days, like today. We've not had a typical summer this year but as can be seen we've been out and about plenty. We've been to Westport for 4 x 1 week holidays over the years and had 3 or 4 rainy days at most - must have been lucky!

Yes, South West Scotland is one of the nicer parts of Scotland. I disagree on bits of Ayrshire/Renfrewshire but generally it's not as inviting to get the camera out I agree Friends are just back from a weekend on Arran. They got the ferry from Ardrossan across to Brodick and had an absolutely magical weekend (with lovely weather)!

Thanks and very nice view too; Cyprus is a place we haven't been but one day we will. We're doubly lucky as we have our place in Melbourne at Williamstown and look out onto the bay and cityscape. It does rain in the Republic, but it's not wetter than many places in Europe and even here we have different weather in different places:lol: It's kind of funny that a lot of British people think we always get worse weather. Dublin gets less rain than Blackpool and has more sunshine hours than Birmingham. Wicklow would get the same amount of sun as Brussels and probably 50 fewer rainy days. I'm in Co. Galway myself and we do get a lot of rainfall, but it can go so quickly and be different 10 km away. I always feel that Westport does get better weather than Galway City. It's happened many times that it was pouring down when we passed Galway City and in Westport we had sun.

Agreed (much variation between east and west but the west of the '40 shades of green' does get it's fair share) and reading your posts has brought back many fond memories of our times in Westport. We used to stay in a lovely bungalow on a hill just above Westport Harbour with uninterrupted views of the harbour, Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick looking over everything.

This afternoon we took advantage of the break in the rain :sarcasm:to enjoy the late arvo sunshine down at Balcary Bay by Auchencairn. The Lake District hills stood out clearly and it was magnificent as some photos will show. Autumn tints are just coming to the trees and the heather and bracken on the hillsides.
