Must check with my mate and see if he has any photographic evidence of that night he spent sharing a motel room with you........

While the shopping gets packed, one can check if the scanned price is right. It's better than picking your nose. BG

My pleasure.

I have to admit I forgot my registration until today, after someone told me about this forum.

OK, was trying to add a poll but it didn't take me to the page!
England is the only country I've lived in (and I've lived in a few) where somebody DOESN'T pack your bags for you. So, living there, I hated NOT having my bags packed. They even get chairs to sit on. Chairs! They sit there all day and watch the customers do their job for them - what exactly are they being paid for....?

I hate the disinterested London checkout people who throw all your stuff at you and watch with a bored expression, waiting for you to rush to get out of the way because they've already scanned the next customer's items!! I used to want to scream at them, “Well bloody well help me then!!”

They pack bags in Bermuda too, generlly school children and you have to give them about 50c per bag. I did not find this a difficult adjustment to make at all. They were usually pretty efficient about it.

When we first returned to the UK, we did tend to forget and would just stand there chatting whilst the groceries were being scanned. Much to the annoyance of other customers.

As I don't drive I need the shopping evenly distributed for carrying - checkout staff here can't cope with that, loading up my Asda bags with far too much weight in one and all the light stuff in another. I asked one last week not to put any more in one as I had to carry it home and she had piled it too high. She got really huffy about it, and continued to chuck stuff it till I took the bag off her and took stuff out again! Why do people here assume everyone drives everywhere!
I can't wait till i get home in two weeks and can pack my own stuff in Sainsburys

My bags were always packed for me in the UK and I shopped at a variety of places - Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury. They usually had somebody specifically employed to do it; this was Leeds.

That doesn't bother me as much as the slow scanning/bag packing Jesus Christ, it's like watching in slow motion sometimes

Ok rant over - over to the happy clappers
Well I feel sorry for the checkout staff havng to put up with so many miserable, ungrateful people. If I was one of them I'd tell you to pack your own bloody bags, then I expect you would complain that the girl REFUSED TO PACK MY BAGS.

Yes. Some chick in a shop helped me. What a bitch!! Personally, I usually use my Scottish accent to encourage a flirtatious encounter with the checkout girls. They seem to enjoy it and it raises my self esteem. Win-win really!
