What a difference a week makes!

A week ago the A/C was struggling to keep the house habitable (it was 42' outside )- and now we have the heating on and the electric blankets at night. And it's raining continuously - good for the garden at last.

Must say I'm enjoying the cooler temperatures - in the low 20s. Sure as shit haven't got the heating on though! Just back from the beach and the club swim out through some *very* mushy surf. Warm weather returns mid-week, which is great because it's the Huskisson triathlon at the weekend and I'm on water safety.

There's a bit in the paper today about an unusual N'Easterly current upwelling very cold water along the NSW coast, and several people being treated for hypothermia. Take care - the sharks might not get you first <g>.

Yea - it showed up a couple of weeks ago - but according to the members of my surf lifesaving club, it's a regular occurrence - happened a couple of years ago too. Dropped the temperature to about 21 degrees off our beach which was enough to lure some bait fish in. Came close to using the shark alarm last week, but the school of sharks in question, monitored by AirPac moved off-shore.

Last week? Round the 13th?

Official CSIRO sea temp maps for that day indicate the water temp was in the 20-23 degree range ... (incidentally - white areas indicate no data - not ice bergs!!!)

Well that must record the top 5cm of water or something because my dive computer has not logged anything above 20 degrees all summer!

Big thermoclines around in JB so on one dive it's easy to drop from 19 to 14 or so within a few metres Weird.

If I jumped in to the waters around Sydney tomorrow and recorded 20+ degrees I'd be chuffed!

Well, being a surfer and a surf lifesaver, I'm not really fussed about anything much below a metre!

Funnily enough I'll be in Jervis Bay this weekend doing water safety at the Husky Triathlon.
