Re: Suicide
Don't apologise but the songs are out there, the thread is about the songs, not joking about it and it's a fact of life and such, it should be welcomed not ignored. Imo anyway.

Re: Suicide
I can deAl with death/suicide with a very dark humour.... The mash theme tune is an all time favourite,
Nothing insensitive discussing it.... Ignoring it doesnt make it go away... If people talk about suicide... On ANY level... With or without humour it becomes less taboo... People considering it are relieved that they can talk about it.... Can create a better understanding of those that do suicide... Blah blah blah...
Hate asking pts do you feel like killing yourself.... Do you have a plan... ?Because I know damn well that if I were suicidal I would lie throughh my teeth to anyone who asked those questions.... But it has to be done... Fantasising about your own death, the impact on others, what will happen when you arent there.... All thoughts people who suicide have.... Talking about them... It helps...

Re: Suicide
A very close friend shot his brains out in a cheap Manila hotel Christmas Eve 2009. His wife had left him, taking all of his money and his dignity. He couldn't even afford to pay for the room.
It hurt me a lot because if he had called me reverse charge I would have wired him money and caught the next plane. But I guess he thought it was his time.
I m sitting right now in a bar we used to drink at in Jakarta when we worked here. I still expect him to walk in...
Vale Tim, I still think of you.
But I can still joke about it. Tim would have.

Re: Suicide
Yep, I don't think anyone is being malicious or flippant about suicide in this thread. There's hardly a person on the planet that hasn't been affected in some way by the suicide of a friend or loved one and probably not a person on the planet over 10 years old that hasn't at some point contemplated it, even if only for an instant.

Although I like MASH, the opening song is incorrect- suicide is not painless, it causes tremendous pain.
BTW I do have a sense of humour!

Re: Suicide
One bloody excellent thing, flippancy, humour, heartbreak besides is it's got us talking about it....
If I did it I'd OD on insulin and fall into a coma and die... And yup, i have thought about it.... Ergo to have a plan i must have thought about it... But then I thought about the pain it would cause others...and couldnt/wouldnt do that to my children/parents/HIM..... I'll just hang on and bloody well make them all suffer
Obviously no matter how depressed I thought I was I hadnt actually reached rock bottom.... God knows what rock bottom feels like....pretty Depressed is a bad enough place to be

Re: Suicide
To be honest, if I see a thread in The Barbie entitled 'Suicide' I can take an educated guess what it will consist of. If I were someone to whom the subject was in any way sensitive, I would not open it and I'd certainly not post on it. There are two or three threads around the place that I know I don't want to know whats in them - I ignore them.
Just an opinion, not having a go at anyone, we are all different and deal with things differently. I tend to find humour in every dark situation, it's how I deal with stuff.

Jeez, it was only a bastardised Peter Cook play on words that I thought was amusing ...
What's next for verboten humour and conversations - Plane Crashes, Car Accidents, Alcoholism, Cancer, Drowning?
If said something like 'Everyone who commits suicide is a coward' then yeh, go jump down my throat in the meantime get some perspective.

Re: Suicide
Its a subject some of us find it very hard to get flippant about, and I can see why a lot of posters are uncomfortable with it, myself being one. I'm thinking a more flippant title might have been better if it was a thread to be taken in that way? We've had lots of threads on the subject of taking one's own life over the years, several of them in the Barbie, and in this case the title didn't really warn people to stay away, did it.
