The reason I jacked in the Prime membership was the lack of content. They don't own the licences so can't stream it.

Hardly anything worked including some of their own productions because they were already licensed to third parties like Stan or Presto.

That being the case surely it will be several years before they can build up a catalogue of new stuff they can show.

Well, you learn something every day - I had no idea that FF couldn't play Netflix. I use Chrome on my Linux box at home, and it's great - Netflix is much better on a browser than it is integrated on a box or other.

I can quite see how it's likely to grow into a major class of interface. Wouldn't be right for everything, but the potential for a conversational approach has a lot going for it. That's particularly true of things that would take an age to type in via a soft keyboard, etc.

Plus it makes home automation make sense - it's liable to really kickstart that.

My guess is, if you haven't got one of these devices this Christmas, you'll probably get one by next Christmas - in some shape or form.

So with the news today that the High Court has ordered the Australian ISP's to block various sites such as Pirate Bay etc (it was going to happen I guess), what VPN does everyone recommend? I'm currently looking at ExpressVPN as they are meant to have good customer support, decent speed, 5 devices allowed, no logs, but things like a kill switch are missing.

Been using IBVPN for a few weeks without any hassle. Just using their basic 1 device vpn service which is cheap and reliable so far.

The interface for OSX is a dream. So simple to use.

It's actually speeded up my internet because my provider uses DNS hijacking and that must have been slowing it down.

It's actually a question of if you need a VPN. Now I'm not saying that it's not a good idea (not with Brandis) but this has been so inept a case as to be laughable. Half the sites mentioned no longer exist anyway, it's that out of date.

First, it's so inept that it will probably miss newer addresses entirely - TPB have been good at reappearing all over the shop. So it will probably be negated quite quickly.

Second, it looks like this is a DNS block, so change your DNS settings (eg google's 8.8.8.8) and it disappears.

Third, there are browsers (like Opera) that have their own free VPN built in, which again bypasses the block. Won't protect your actual download, but then again, if you weren't already using a VPN...

And last, you can pay for a VPN and redirect everything via that. Can get complex, depending on how far you go.

This is a non-event - the UK has the same setup and there it has been widely circumvented. At least some lawyers made some money

I find VPNs pretty much the same overall - one does not have the total solution. I'd try some free trials and see how you go

My solution is to have a dedicated PC permanently running a VPN for downloading. You don't need a powerful machine - mine is an ancient and under-powered Compaq laptop running W7 that is always on. Works well for me

Just had a look a the list of sites being blocked and extratorrent, the site I use the most and one of the main torrent resources available in 2016, is not on it

I know it can be added via a minor court proceeding but it just goes to show how ridiculous and ineffective this block will be

Anyway, things Exodus on Kodi are making torrenting obsolete anyway

Does Amazon Prime work in the same way as Netflix, where it makes no difference via which country you sign up as you always get the content according to your location?

Just an update - went with NordVPN due to number of connections allowed (6) and no loging as based in Panama. Just over US$40 for 6 months initially. Seems to work pretty well with all the required streaming services locally and overseas. Reviewed pretty well by most sources. Minor buffering to start with, but suspect that is mainly due to poor wifi coverage.
