No you do not need injections if you are planning to stay in Singapore.

The vast majority of people passing through do not bother with innoculations.....they are, however, recommended for most Far eastern contries.
Try the MASTA or WHO websites.

It's a long time since this was a swamp
but I will repeat what my doctor here says - you never know who is in the hotel kitchen, preparing your meals, and what they may be carrying. A lot of service staff will have come from much less developed places than Singapore. I keep my jabs up to date, especially the above.I'd be much more concerned about mosquitos - we have a Dengue Fever problem and it's really not nice to have it (as I well know); use a good insect repellant at all times. Rid is good.
FYI tap water is safe to drink - IIRC standards are higher than most western countries - and it's ok to have ice in your drinks.
Eat on the street - it's part of the Singapore experience. If in doubt, look for the hygiene certificate. It's pale blue I think, and will have a big bold letter A or B. (Never seen a C or worse but I'd avoid those anyway!) A lot of hawker stalls have A, some apparently sanitised chains of cafe have B, so you should be ok with either.
(If you're not used to it, don't eat too much chilli. It's served with virtually everything here.

Unless you are trekking through jungles in Singapore or drinking from rivers and swimming in the sea you will be fine.
Seriously - its completely safe and certainly moreso than downtown LA!!!

Yup, it's the most "western" SE Asian city you could come to - much more sanitary than Hong Kong, too. A Starbucks on every corner, Mucky Dees in every mall, and English is the official first language. There's "Low Crime not No Crime" so don't be slack and don't save your seat in a food court with your bag (it may be ok for locals but thieves target tourists) and you'll be fine!

Good point. Buy spirits at Changi - so cheap!
(If you want to buy electronics, use the search function as it's oft discussed and you can read some Dos and Don'ts.)

Singapore is very clean etc, but best to be prepared, on a sideline, if you do go through Singapore, A must for you and the family is the Night Safari at the zoo, it really is a great experience !!. I think you will be surprised at how modern and clean Singapore is, and lots to see. You can even catch a bus to Malaysia..only about 30 mins, and do some cheap shopping. Have a great trip which ever way you go

You can (although that 30 minutes doesn't inlcude going through customs) but why would you want to? Johor Bahru (the bit of Msia just over the bridge) is a dirty hole and there certainly is crime there. Car/bike jackings included.
You'll find Singapore cheap enough.

On duty free at the airport, don't buy electrical stuff there..more expensive than in town, for computer stuff go to Funan centre, and for other electrical stuff go to SimLin square, you can bargain there, so shop around. If you want a full on local shopping experience, go to Mistafa center, it's open 24 hours and sells everything, can get a bit hectic tho, so might be a bit much with a 5 yr old. The trains are fantastic, and very cheap, probably one of the best train systems in the world.
