The present law is that if you are openly gay you cannot serve in the US military. It's not a question of ticking a box on the application form, it's a question of having to conceal a part of your life, for which you are breaking no law, or lose your job.
Many people would describe that as discriminatory. Hence the rallies; many groups of society who have felt discriminated against have taken part in rallies through history....women, black people, etc.
I take your point about pride marches etc....much of the political side of these means little to many of the people who take part. As laws like the one mentioned above slowly disappear though there will be less and less justification for organising them in the first place.

You can hardly use Gately as proof of that - he preferred to keep his private life private and was outed by The Scum.
Your post is, however, proof of the claim that idiots want everyone to know their idiocy. I mean, God, OK, you're a moron and you're happy that way, but do you have to ram it down everyone's throat by highlighting it in every thread you post on?
