What on earth has the American Military got to do with Stephen Gately (who happened to be gay...) dying?

As far as I'm aware he never signed an application form for Boyzone that said he was gay, from what I understand he hid it for years, hardly fits your view that "gays want everyone to know their sexuality"...

The present law is that if you are openly gay you cannot serve in the US military. It's not a question of ticking a box on the application form, it's a question of having to conceal a part of your life, for which you are breaking no law, or lose your job.

Many people would describe that as discriminatory. Hence the rallies; many groups of society who have felt discriminated against have taken part in rallies through history....women, black people, etc.

I take your point about pride marches etc....much of the political side of these means little to many of the people who take part. As laws like the one mentioned above slowly disappear though there will be less and less justification for organising them in the first place.

Oh, I agree totally, I enjoy lively debate, questioning many aspects, and of course it is wrong for gays to have to feel the need to hide their sexuality.
I suppose my real point is that there shouldn't be a need for gays to either hide, or flaunt being gay.

Well, if Polly won't do it I will. I don't even know who Stephen Gately is/was, but the tone of this thread has degenerated from an obituary for someone to gay bashing to personal insults.

For heaven's sake people grow the hell up or piss off somewhere that allows for that type of crap.

On that note I suggest you all take a read of the site rules and thread closed.
