I am British, husband is an Aussie due to various loopholes closing up during his life which means he has no claim to be a Brit (Aah what a shame!) He was born in Australia and came back when he was 4. We have a daughter and are SERIOUSLY thinking of giving Queensland a go (yes another Brissie fan!). We are going out for a reccie in the Summer for 3 weeks and having read this thread thought it may be as well to apply for spouse visa now in the hope that it is approved and then we can validate it on reccie. BUT I have a couple of questions......surprise surprise!

We have very little evidence of joint things as we have 1 joint bank account but it is for rainy day money - we've kept quite independent financially (lazy as we are and I like to spend guilt free! ;) ). Also all bills are in one or t'other's name. Hhhmmm.

We have an Aussie that can do one stat dec. really well. If the others are VERY close family (including one who lived in Australia for about 8 years) but not actually Aussie is that ok? I have read the forms honest, but I'm getting brain ache! (Now I know how my pupils feel!)

Last one - promise!! Once validated, how long is the visa ok for? Just cos we're not sure when exactly we're going!!

Thanks for any help/advice, just chat!!

Hiya and welcome to our spouse circle!!!

We only have one joint account too and most of our bills are in OH name. We sent copy of this account.
Do you have a mortgage together? we do and sent a statement from that in our application, if not do you rent jointly?
What about any proof of recent holidays youve been on together? we sent in copies of last years holiday to Aus booking confimation.

I only included one stat dec from a true Aussie as we only know one!!!

My auntie typed us a few lines about us, just on paper and head it witnessed by her friend whos a teacher.
Also had our financial advisor write a bit about how long he known us, etc...

I didnt include any photos and no where near loads of evidence believe me!!!

How long have you been married? Think this and the fact that you have a child helps with the application.

Mine and my 2 kids visa was granted in 2 weeks!!!!

My visa is a permanent one and once validated is valid for 5 years, but i believe if you are granted a temporary one then its 2 years

Any more questions just ask away!!! Happy to help.........C x:thumbsup:

Wow that was quick! Thanks for all the info. We have been married nearly 7 years/going out for 13 (!) We do have a mortgage - hooray some more evidence - have had one for 7 years too. Never go anywhere exciting on holiday but may be able to find something!

Look forward to chatting on here. Thanks again!

itigo - welcome!

Wouldnt your husband be entitled to British citizenship through being married to you? Just a thought!!

We too are Brissie bound, next January. Whereabouts in the UK are you at present?

i sent our police checks away today
i have spoken to ex hubby who will not put any barriers in our way, so i have just to contact my lawyer (who is on holiday ) to conjure up some agreement re daughter.
i have written my statement, oh has started his
stat decs are sent to Oz for completion
evidence of relationship is growing by the day.
medicals still to be arranged.

my head is actually bursting with things to arrange once the visa is agreed, like selling up, handing in notice to work etc,
one thing we have been working on is how much cash we will need to set up and live on for say 6 months, our estimate is £1,000 a month living expenses with set up costs of approx £10,000 to include all household stuff, plus a runaround car etc, we also have to account for transporting the cat and our flights (3 adults) - anyone think of anything else or have different figures in mind:confused:

Hiya, you sound like you're getting pretty organised. Everything sounds good so far. Not sure about the cost of living etc. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you out with that one :)

I worry about it being a big hassle for people to have to fill out stat decs and get certified copies of their passports and all of those things, its just all a bit hard!! And its very much in the planning stages for me so still a long way to go! Chin up, you are nearly there!

Thanks Rachel, I am almost there I know which is what is freaking me out  I was going to get everything organised this weekend, but for some reason I'm putting it off!!

Silly Question - but I don't know the answer so I'll ask anyway...

It says about not having staples, folders etc in your application. Well the PCC has a staple in it which I don't really want to remove. I'm guessing it will be ok to keep the staple in the PCC check??

Re: Spouse Visa Circle - join here!

I have a couple more Q's about filling out the form (sooo paranoid I'm going to do something wrong!!)

Applicants form:

Part B Question 9 it asks about entry into Aus before etc. Now my husband has been on a working holiday visa, however the passport which had the visa number in he doesn't have anymore. Now I've had it confirmed that they will be able to find this info for us once we've lodged the application - so do I leave it blank or should I write a little bit about it on the extra space where you can put the Q number and the extra info.

Part C Question 18 asks for the issuing Authority from the passport. I'm not 100% clear on where this is on the passport. Can someone let me know??

Part E Question 54 asks for partners address details and then in brackets it says (if different from yours) so as it is the same do we leave it blank, put 'N/A' or do we write the same address in?

Also we have typed up an explination and what not about the police check, should I write this in the provided area for any additional info or should I have it typed up as an attached statement?

argh!! All so confusing!!

Hi Kristy - I'm afraid I dont know the answer to any of your questions but will watch with interest to the answers as I also spent a year in Aus in 94/95 and the passport with the visa in it is loooong gone into the shredder!! I reckon you could probably just write the approx dates and put in "working visa" in the space for the number? I dont bloody know.

Spent too many hours on real estate.com.au today and scared myself silly again with the price of the houses. Keep telling hubby I want to live in a palace and he keeps laughing at me.....why is that d'ya think??
