Speeding Ticket

Hooray, got my first speeding ticket in 18 years!!:curse:
From Australia by post. This was the hire car in Brissy. I know the cameras are there for a reason / safety yada, yada, yada. (13 kms/hr over the limit!) Anyhoo, I better pay the $150 online.:frown:
Anyone know how they are going to 'bless' me with the 3 demerit points and if these will be endorsed on my UK licence (and how)?, or will they wait until I land in OZ and apply for a local drivers licence? BTW how many demerit points before a licence is suspended - is it the same as in the UK?
Any info please.

Ha, I've just had exact same thing happen from the car hire we had when we first arrived, they sent info to the UK so just waiting for it to come back her. Only ourselves to blame I know.

Was wondering about the points thing though.

Well I don't know how it works now, but when we first moved to Sydney (11+ yrs ago) my OH got several speeding tickets. They were never put on his UK licence and when we finally got Ozzie licences they weren't put on that either.:D

Bad luck huh! Did you pay over the net? and did they send you a nice photo using a secret HIDDEN camera as well?

Here's a link for you but it seems to be for Qld lience holders
http://www.roadsafety.qld.gov.au/qt/LTASinfo.nsf/ReferenceLookup/Your_keys_licence_suspensions.pdf/$file/Your_keys_licence_suspensions.pdf

7 demerit points in a 3yr period warrants a letter and 12 will be a suspension of licence for 3 months.

That's really interesting. I got a speeding fine just the other day from Bendigo. I have never been to Bendigo but my Edinburgh dwelling Dad was there just a few weeks ago in my car! Is there a link??

If I send the Edinburgh address, what happens to Dear Old Daddy?

I don't know, I've not seen it yet, it went to the UK and we're in Oz. Well..bad luck yeah, but we must've been speeding to get it so I can't really gripe about it

Ha... Bad luck mate, just pay the fine and you will have no problems coming back here... The upshot is, you quite simply can't get demerit points on a foreign licence... This = fact..

When you finally get your Aus licence, you will start with 12 points and work your way down (instead of up to 12) ban etc...

We had one last time we went on holiday in Qld, they sent fine and photo proof to the Uk. We ignored it and they never chased it :p :)

You woud think. However, my FIL was driving around on his UK licence and copped 2 speeding fines. He pays them and hands over his UK licence details. As you say, no demerit points can be issued by an Australian state to it.

However, he then changes over to a QLD licence 6 months down the line and hey presto - it comes with 6 free demerit points!!! From those old infringements.

So they will get you in the end for playing silly buggers with a UK licence if you live here.

Anyone ignored one from NSW and got away with it? Kerry has filled my details in and is going to post it back to them.....:(

I was curious as to the enforcement process of a fine. Here's the link for QLD if anyone is interested.
