Speeding fine to the UK
Father in law has bee over for 2 weeks holiday and returned on 9th march. The nice chap (not) got a speeding fine for us through the door today 73km/h in a 60 zone. Had insured him and paid extra for it to cover him whilst he was here.He was driving the car out for the last time before he flew at 5pm to get some shopping. Being completely against speeding and having told him to slow down many a time when he was driving here I think he deserves to pay the penalty. Question is will they enforce it from here if we fill in the declaration? If not i'm not going to be a happy bunny:frown:. Just the last straw in a number of things he did that nearly ended up with me returning to the UK.

Sorry to hear that. Once you fill in the declaration, it's up to them to pursue. They could pursue it if they wanted to, even by just selling the debt to debt-collectors.
Judge Einfeld thought he was being clever by filling in his US-resident friend's name on his speeding fine so he wouldn't get the points. On the notification, it states a photographs has been taken of the driver at the time (from memory). It should be apparent from said photograph that its neither yourself (I assume), or your husband (I hope). |

The infringement notice shows the car number plate from the rear and states "These images have been supplied as a courtesy only, clearer images are used for processing purposes", does that mean that no photo of the driver was taken then? Defiantly not hubby or I can prove that we were elsewhere at the time. Deserves the $200 fine as far as i'm concerned:sneaky:

Someone in my family got a speeding ticket whilst on holiday here from the UK and yep they did enforce it. Tracked him down via the hire car company and sent it to his UK home address. If you dont pay quick enough they lump extra on as well and continue chasing! :thumbsup: |

And anyways, 73 in a 60 might be a three-pointer (?) can't afford too many of those on your licence.

Spartie he is the only member of the family who would deserve ripping off and it would recover some of the 2 weeks food/washing/trips out/insurance etc he forgot to contribute to. Looks like he will get away with $200 fine instead. Shame the points can't go on the UK licence though. |

Sticking the boot in and trying to claim you've paid it and bribing your family will only work if you are ahppy to accept the penalty points yourself!
Otherwise just fill in the stat-dec and they'll send on the fine to the UK! (My sister got one when visiting me). I've heard, (although not confirmed so could be a urban myth), that if you dont pay the fine sent to the UK then it will be waiting for you next time you try and re-enter Australia with entry denied until you've fixed up your bill! In contrast a speeding ticket I picked up in UK was never heard of again once my dad filled in the stat-dec with my Australian address details |
