Anyway, something else to be worried about :D

Not knowing much about this, I did some research. There was a huge event in 1859 - the telegraph system failed, and even caught fire in places. There was another smaller one in 1921 and again in 1960.

If we get a 1859 size event then we are going to be f**ked.

Were you in North Lincs? I lived in mid Lincs (where the Wolds end and the Fens start) with no light pollution (no street lights for at least 4 miles) and very rural and never seen them. Will ask the folks when we visit them today if they've ever seen them, but don't think they have done quite so much walking at night (mainly home from the pub:D) as I have :o

Lived on top of the Wolds, between Grimsby & Caistor. You couldn't see them every year but some years were fantastic. I remember sitting with a gf up on top of the Wolds [Rothwell Top] watching the whole sky to the north light up green:thumbup:
I also remember a time when there was a perfect reflection of Bridlington up in the sky [viewable from Cleethorpes sea front] weird phenomenon:blink:

Where were you Sleaford way on?

Interesting innit? Sounds like one of those 'Yeh, It'll never happen' things but then you realise how delicate the technology is ... And how long have we been monitoring this stuff, the miniscule amount of time we have had the technology to ... not long at all ..

Every time there's a solar flare event we get people writing to us at work suggesting we should monitor the sun more closely cos the next one could mean the end of the world  Quite what they expect us to do about it I've no idea
