Solar Flares

They sound like mighty groovy trousers but in fact they could wipe out much of our lovely technology:

Anyway, something else to be worried about :D

Seen them before in Alaska. I doubt that the UK is going to see anything like what we saw up there - truly one of the most spectacular things I have ever witnessed

You reckon with the light pollution in the UK you are going to see the Northern Lights in Bournemouth, dream on big boy. We get to see far more stars here in Australia than the light polluted UK can even dream about,

Not here, but where I used to live in Lincolnshire, 5 miles from any town or village was a good place..

Maybe you are confusing stars with satellites.

Indeed not but the best Northern Lights I have experienced have been sourced in a coffee shop in Amsterdam ... I have also seen the atmospheric variety in the far north west of Scotland ... and Iceland, where I chowed down on Icelandic Pony and Penguin ... fantastic place, highly recommended.

Don't start the evening early up there is my advice ...

What about the Southern Ones? Surely with the south pole tilted towards the sun at the mo it should catch more of the particles. Obviously the folks in Queensland won't get to see them just as the folks in southern UK won't get to see the northern ones but Tassie is in zone and possibly southern Vic.

Lived in Lincs most of my life and never saw the Northern Lights. Plenty of stars and the occasional residual glow from the RAF bombing ranges off the coast, but no Northern Lights.

I lived in Lincolnshire for 35 years & saw the Northern Lights numerous on occasions, if you live in an area with very little light pollution, as I did, they are sometimes quite spectacular.
