So who's voting below the line ?

... I wanted to, but hell, that's a LOT of boxes. I doubt the true independents are going to get much love in this election, since voting below the line is the only way they get anything.

Of course, they've changed the way the Senate vote is done, probably to encourage more people to vote below the line. Picking 12 below the line isn't so onerous... although I know several people who will still be numbering every box.

Doing ours as I type as we're away on Polling Day

You could vote for nothing but greens and still hit 12 below the line. Practically, even after you exclude the loonies, you are probably still looking at 35+ numbered to ensure your vote doesn't exhaust.

As and when I find a workable DIY how to vote card generator, I'll post it here.

I don't think there were as many options this time as last time. Anyway, duty done.

I had a look at the One Nation website yesterday to have look at where the are at policy wise these days. I always thought Pauline was a bit of a loon in the past, but I have to say that their once extreme policies have been softened somewhat, and I actually agree with quite a lot of their current policies.

Interesting. Just had a quick browse myself. The obvious choice was to go straight for the stance on Islam.

Islam - Policy | Pauline Hanson's One Nation

Carefully crafted, probably a few hard core policies there, but it certainly raises some interesting points. The mutilation of genitalia is probably spot on.

When Joe Hockey was the LNP member for my electorate, no-one was campaigning in my area. Not even Cockey himself. Now it's Trent Zimmerman, he is the only one campaigning. Maybe so many electorates won't be so nailed on if opposing candidates got out and campained.

North Melbourne (my, haven't we got some money) is about as safe a LNP seat as you'll find. Thus your vote doesn't really count. You could vote Greens till you are blue in the face - nothing will change. So nobody is really going to put any effort into it - they'd rather spend the money elsewhere.

Saying that, I've received exactly one mailing here as well - so the money is going elsewhere (those few swing electorates).

Yeah, I live in Plibersek's very safe Labour seat - my vot will make little difference, beyond giving some of the smaller parties a boost.

I don't think I'll be voting for any of the major parties.

You can get one of the independents election money next time if you can help push their primary support over 4%.

I actually quite like many of the policies of the Sex Party, however they have a huge branding issue, and will never appeal to the larger population.

I would probably vote NXT, if he was running anybody in my electorate.

What's with parties being named after the party leader? Not quite ego mad like PUP but I don't agree with it.

I live in Malcolm T's very safe Liberal seat. There's Labor placards on all the street posts around his office which gives me a giggle everytime I pass it.

I think demographically Wentworth is probably a lot like Higgins ("blue ribbon") here in Melbourne where according to polling Kelly O'Dwyer is at risk from the Greens. Malcolm could end up in a similar predicament by the next election I think. His 2PP vote was in the low to mid-50s% in 2004 & 2007.

Not really sure its the right demographic for the Greens. That said there are a lot of the youthful crowd around here so maybe you could be right.

I heard recently that the most common language spoken in households after English is Russian.

Here is the Labor candidate. Interesting fella

Not easy, but two thirds of his electorate said he shouldn't be standing again.

And the sheer explosion of schadenfreude should he get kicked out would be a delight to see.

Some were black. But if you want to racially profile and colour code people, go ahead. I won't be partaking.

If you start attacking halal certification, then you need to also look at kosher. Extremist Jews with their repressive laws for women, and their racist viewpoints should not then have a place in society- nor should circumcision for religious reasons. Where do you draw the line? Catholics? Scientologists? Jehovas witnesses? Hillsong? Evangelists? Anyone who has a tint of brown skin??

No need, simply pointing out the subtext to what Abbott was thinking/doing, and why it was 'stop the boats' rather than 'save from drowning'.

You make a very good point. The zealous nature of extreme judaism seems immune to criticism however.

Totally agree. Minority groups need a big overhaul.

The change for change's sake election of Australia-hating Kevin Rudd in 2007 resulted in over 50000 illegal arrivals by boat and about 2000 deaths at sea

An impressive example of the destruction caused by socialism

I was in the city today

There were plenty of, er, brown people going about their business

None of them looked scared, oppressed, hated - in fact some of them were walking, talking, laughing and joking with actual white people

Surely that's not right and I was seeing things?

Definitely missed the memo
