The majority of deaths are due to handling or attempting to kill snakes. The link above deliberately excludes those deaths therefore excludes the majority of deaths due to snake bites. I'd like to see a total inclusive of all bites.
We've had loads of snakes about the block this year. My granddaughter came up the stairs a couple of nights ago & said pop there's a snake at the bottom of the stairs. We've got the rellies staying at the moment & they all freaked screams of OMG get rid of it etc. My daughter issued the ultimatum "It goes or I do" so I told her to drive carefully.
It was a harmless coastal python, just a baby. I unwrapped her from the house stump & within a few mins the freaked rellies were all interested in seeing this cute little snake. I even got the SIL to handle it, she was very hesitant at first.

About 3 deaths per year according to:

http://www.nchirt.qut.edu.au/consult...nkelSlides.pdf

Less than 2 according to:

There may be better figures somewhere. :)

You can get your house, pool area and garage etc sprayed for creepy crawlies, they die on contact if they do happen to get in, but don't suppose this would help regarding snakes!
