Re: Sleep Apnea Anyone?
You can hire the machines rather than buy one before trying. One of the sleep centres in Perth gets you to go in and get fitted for one, once you've had the sleep study done. Apart from CPAP, there is also APAP, which is apparently better. There are some reviews and info on the Whirlpool forum on machines and supplies http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...=CPAP&f=&fg=-1.

Re: Sleep Apnea Anyone?
I've had 2 sleep studies done as I have borderline sleep apnea due to MS. You have to have 2, as the first one is without the machine, and the second one is with a machine to see which is the best model and pressures for you.
I hired my c-pap machine for 8 weeks, but unfortunately I didn't sleep with it as well as I'd hoped- kept waking up with hot flushed and palpitations (closet claustrophobia), and as I'm only borderline, I am trying to manage without it. You can also get mouthguards, fitted by dentists that help you stop clenching your jaw/snoring by bringing your tongue forwards or changing the position of your jaw when you sleep. Don't know if that will be of any help to you, but I hope you find something that works. If you want to know a bit more about what the actual test involves, pm me. |
Re: Sleep Apnea Anyone?
well albeit late...here is my twopenny worth.
I sleep like a log, go to bed late, like to lie in bed in the morning and quite frankly looooove laying in my festering pit until I HAVE to get up. But, my better half is kept awake by my deep throaty growling at night and my tendency to stop breathing for prolonged periods followed by a rush of breath and gasping!! But....all has changed!! How? I hear you ask. Simple....I stopped drinking and also have been on a diet and health kick! According to she who lies awake listening to me (I think she lies, I think she is just taking any chance to stare adoringly at me...hey, don't blame her, her eyes aren't painted on, she ain't made of wood!) since I did a whole month of no alcohol it stopped almost immediately and she hasn't noticed any recurrence of it yet. So....our basic analysis suggests that there are two possible links for my own version of sleep apnea. 1) Alcohol which probably ensures I drift into a comatose based sleep and thus lose all control of my throat muscles, and 2) weight which MAY have reduced the rolls of fat around my previous bull-like neck and thus given my now swan-like neckline a more slimmer appearance and reduced the strain on my throat. |
Re: Sleep Apnea Anyone?
Make the wife run 10km before bed every night. She will sleep though anything.:)
Seriously, can people snore so loudly that it affects partners? |

Re: Sleep Apnea Anyone?
Sometimes I wake myself up with my "snoring". Reckon it is the deep gasp after I've stopped breathing, tho Oh says I snore. His dad could wake the whole house, and make the windows rattle- combination of obesity and alcohol in his case, MS in mine.

Re: Sleep Apnea Anyone?
Mr TE could wake the dead if he forgets to put his cpap mask on. It seems to work well for him and he has more energy.
Does anyone wake up biting their tongue? That's an odd thing I seem to do. |
