Sleep Apnea Anyone?
 

Has anyone been through the process of sleep study - c pap machine in Oz? Him indoors has had moderate to severe sleep apnea for years and finally we are static enough to go through the system and get him a sexy mask.

Anyone have any idea of the costs involved? Whether you can use the Aussie prescription to get one from the UK or in Asia?

yes i have the dreaded lergy..shit sometimes i wake up and feel like i aint been to bed,makes me a real moody flucker...

ive tried the machine which costs i believe 2k,it was no good it kept trying to suffercate me...my mrs said it was like sleeping with darf vader..how would she know,,slept with darf vader has she?

I weigh 64 kg and am 5ft 5 if you want a date :wub:.... re: the cpap machine - it's for my partner. He's had problems snoring, stopping breathing and thrashing around whether big or thin so I don't think a diet would make any difference although he's certainly a touch curvaceous at the moment. Can they operate on you at all? We saw a specialist in the UK ages ago who wanted to try lasering the inside of his throat tissue.

a pal of mine at work has had the throat op,cut yer throat and pull stuff back in yer mouth..shit i would rather carry on being moody,,,or he will just have to do the diet thing..have you tried telling him he aint doing it for you anymore..that will make him sit up and notice..!!!

I haven't, TE - but there's loads of information on all the treatments available to sufferers and what appear to be links to a forum too (although they don't seem overly busy)

OH has one - not overweight but has an underbite and something to do with the throat. They offered to break the jaw and realign it and then laster the throat. If this was guaranteed then he would have done it but it isn't.

His CPAP machine is very quiet - cost about $1,800 and apart from the odd night he doesn't find it uncomfortable at all.

I'm not sure about buying one 'off the shelf' as it needs to be fitted and set up for each individual person. However, you may find someone who will do this without selling you one.

If you want to know the details of my OH's make and model I am more than happy to get these details for you. He did try the small nasal leads but couldn't get one with it.

I would also say it is imperative that he gets one fitted. My sister recently died from complications caused by Sleep Apnea.

My hubby has mild sleep apnea and suspected narcolepsy. He has been through all the tests etc, was told to lose a bit of weight and use a t.shirt with tennis balls to stop the snoring. He is due to go back next month for more tests. Narcolepsy testing is due to get done at the end.

Dont have any personal experience with this dreaded condition but, I do have some information on the subject as I used to be the hairdresser of the CPAP inventor (I know, how bizarre) when I was still working in a salon. Professor Colin E Sullivan OAM is arguably the world leader in this condition and works in Sydney (lovely bloke by the way). Thought you might want to do a bit of research.
