You've got the room, you're at home working - all pluses.

Pen she was talking about a DOG not a MAN:lol:

It's hard when things go wrong though. 2 weeks ago, we had to euthanise our 7 month old labrador puppy, Jack. He had a degenerative Joint Disorder in his front legs that was seriously affecting his quality of life and was only going to get worse. We loved him dearly and taking him to the vet was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do - and I've seen and experienced some pretty terrible things in Africa. The vet told me that we were doing the right thing but it was still very, very hard. Luckily, we have another Labrador, Cooper, who has helped fill the void, but it's still hard.

Dogs are fantastic and I'd say go for it - just be aware of the downsides that can happen.

Sorry to here about your dog mate, tough tough call but sounds like it was the right one.

Bridie, we took about 6 months to decide and looked at quite a few dogs in the process. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it. When the right dog comes along it will feel perfect. Here a pic of my 18 week old boy to help you along.

Thanks NB :D

I am just having the same thoughts as before we had DD..... and before we moved.

When I saw this house on the internet I fell in love with it.... then we drove past and saw it wasnt brick and it kind of put us off a bit and we decided no, it wasnt for us.... then i couldnt get it out of my head and, cutting a very long story short, here we are absolutely loving it.

I will let fate have a turn... I'll phone them up and see if he's still there, if he is I'll either think "shit" and know it's not meant to be or "yay" and then I'll know.....

Nice dog, I love boxers. A neighbour has one, called Jimmy and every time Jimmy takes a dump his big "lipdick" comes sliding out - it's gross.

Thanks for all your replies... Yes Pen, I am here all day. plus it's not as if we are the jetset type always off out and about so not toooo concerened about that aspect.

AAAAAAAh decisions, decision!! :o

Sorry, the ones my step mum had were ex-racers hence the thrill of the chase. The mix your talking about should be fine.

I spent the weekend dog sitting for a friend, he is a one year old sproker and loves to chase cats. I have two and he met them twice. After visit number two he was learning to sit quietly around them.

If you put effort in and remain consistent in your approach they will excel. Just like horses and children boundaries and rules are important......tried it on the cats though......doesn't work!!!!

I've always wanted a greyhound.... OH said last night (after some pondering) that I could have him.... but I'm not 100% sure.

I love the idea of having a dog, i'm not bothered about being tied to the house or anything as we're not really the jetting off here, there and everywhere type, and we could take him with us on holidays. It says he is great around children and other animals so no problem there.

I dont know what's holding me back - probably fear of the unknown as I've never had a dog myself.

Any thoughts?

Go for it. We dithered about getting a dog, but eventually got one five years ago. Part of the family, brought her to Oz. Kids love her, kids loved her puppies when she had nine. She's a whippet staffy cross. We're thinking of getting a rescued greyhound to keep her company. Great dogs, very calm and don't require an enormous amount of exercise.

Ahhhh Angus looks a beauty.

We're flying out to Perth in October and are bringing our much loved beagle (Basil) with us. A few months ago our 16 year old Westy was put down so the bond with Basil has got stronger. We've been finding that getting a short term rental is difficult with a dog (we may have sorted that now). There is no way we'd come without him. Dogs can be a tying but we've adapted our life around him - he's part of our family.

Glad you have decided. Rescue dogs do make wonderful loving pets.

We rescued our girl nearly 2 years ago and I would definitely do it again. She is deaf which makes it interesting sometimes, but she is amazing.

It does take them a lot longer to settle than pups, but it is so worth it.

She had never seen water and was really not interested in getting her feet wet, but now after spending many hours coaxing her with food, she is a great swimmer and loves the water.

Here she is enjoying a day at the beach.
