They said that as we will be taking more than 20 ft worth of stuff the extras (160 cuft) would have to go in a shared container at a cost of an extra £1,075.00
Still awaiting quote from PSS who visited last week! So I've called them and awaiting them to call back with the quote, so will let you know. Interestingly though they told me when they came round that my stuff would all fit in a 20ft container with a bit of room spare. John Mason's told me that I had too much for just one container
However John Mason's also said he thought the container would be approx £3.5k to £4k but now it's arrived in print it's over £500,000 more!!!Dawn

JM overestimated mine by alot too... only discovered this when i decided to start packing lots of extra stuff esp kids stuff. I had allowed them 4 boxes each but by the end they had about 12 each and that was just in their bedrooms... the guys said there was alot more than what was on paper but funnily enough it all fit in exactly as what was quoted. I doubt they would have reduced the price either if i had just packed what i told him i was packing!
I paid gbp3000 for 3/4 of a 20ft

I had a quote from Doree Bonner for 600cf for 2700 (roughly) and 400cf for 2075. We asked for two quotes, very reasonable. Had John Mason in, there volume worked out on site was similar to DB and he mentioned a similar price, but when we recieved the quote, it was wildly different to what the sales rep had said. Did try PSS, but they came at the wrong time, when I called to reschedule they shouted at me, I was upset so my oh called to complain and they shouted at him. Then he hung up, and 30min later the supervisor rang, shouted at him and then asked when we would like to reshedule, he said we wouldnt and she was surprised

Hi there
I work in shipping and basically prices have got up that much! The BAF (ie fuel surcharge) charges on a container has skyrocketed and now cost more than the container does.
I would say that's where your price increase has come from. It used to be that it would be absorbed for a while, but no longer - companies usually have a 'floating' BAF charge, meaning it can go up anytime!
Depending on how much your stuff is worth, you might be better getting rid of the big items (sofas, mattresses etc) and shipping only the essentials. A three seat sofa is about 50-60 cubic feet - and leaving it behind can reduce a groupage (shared) container shipment about £800-£1000.
Good luck

This is current, we are planning on leaving mid september
We asked for two quotes, one with everything and the other with just the bare essentials, one bed, no sofa, desk chair pc etc a few wooden units, dining table and chairs and our 1/2 clothes crockery cutlery etc. We are sending all our worky clothes as unaccompanied luggage or whatever you call it, and taking our holiday type clothes with us for our stop over, so mostly winter clothes going in the container.
Both companies were brilliant customer service wise, maybe DB was bit better I had a few follow calls to see if I was happy. But like I said John Mason went up a lot when it came to the actual quote. and PSS was just a nightmare.
