Sharks...

I knew there were sharks here before we came - and yes i knew off S.A was the 2nd largest breeding ground for the Great White...
but we're having sirens going off daily...been evactuated out of the sea 2 times already this spring
At surflife saving (our kids go) the leaders told the parents that we have a 'local' large visitor who is a regular but hasnt bitten anyone...yet!
Kids are still doing SLSC but theres loads of boats around and members in the water...
we had 2 pointers - Great Whites last weekend, 1 @ 3.5m and 1 @ 4m hunting fish just 50m off the beach and just 500m away from where we HAD been swimming eek
Feeling a little twitchy about going in the water now!

Not quite that bad up this way, we but we do get them. Couple of fishermen caught a 3m white pointer off our beach a couple of months ago. We've also had great whites and hammerheads. Just follow the golden rules - don't swim at dawn or dusk, don't swim in the mouths of rivers and always make sure there's someone further out than you!

The Brisbane river is full of Bull sharks and they are one of the most dangerous when they grow to a large size....good fun to catch though.

and yet....on the way to the beach...and then again, on the way home, you deliberately exposed yourself and your kids to a far, far, more dangerous activity.
You drove your car on a public road.

LOL that was a good chuckle thanks for that.
I know cars are more dangerous than sharks but I kinda blame my parents for letting me watch Jaws when I was little (scared the crap outta me for years and when I was little I had nightmares for months that there was one under my bed just waiting to eat me:$), ok so now i'm an adult I know it's not like that but the fear of being eaten by one of those things has lingered with me from childhood and I do get a bit twitchy going in the sea over there :$
But when i have gone in have had lots of people round me (sort of made me feel a little better) I even did a little body boarding lol.
So enlighten me whats a white pointer ?

LOL, my mum took me to see Jaws when I was 6 yrs old!! she was taking my older brother and sister and didn't realise how scary it would be
I thought a shark was going to come up the loo, and was scared stiff of going for ages!

When Jaws first came out it was x-rated, then ten years later they had it in the 6.30pm movie slot on the beeb. Mad eh, nothing wrong with people being killed horribly but we still daren't show tits and bums to our kids. Perhaps this says something about our society.
As Quint says in Jaws:
You go in the water? Shark's in the water? Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies, farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain...

it may be more dangerous, but its sort of essential isn't it, driving to work, to the shops, kids to school, the beach!?
