Default Shall we talk cricket again?

England fall 77 runs adrift in the 20/20 match.

Only a 'slap and tickle' game but there seems to be some decent cricketers waiting in the wings to take over from 'Dad's Army'. I dare say the likes of Cameron White, Phil Jaques, Ben Hilfenhaus, Mitch Johnson, Brad Hogg, Stewie McGill, Shaun Tait etc would walk into the 'second best test team'.

A batting lineup which begins with Hayden, Gilchrist, Ponting, Hussey, Clark, Symonds and White is going to take a power of beating in the Tri-nations series and World Cup.

England's 36 year old debutant almost top scored, was unbeaten at the end and made more than Vaughan, Flintoff, Bell, Pietersen etc. Dalrymple did top score.

It's the first 20/20 match I've ever watched. Seen loads of tests and ODI. I have to say I really enjoyed it, it's like a free for all

Excellent preformance from the Aussies yet again, especially Gilchrist (sp?) he's such fun to watch once he gets going.

20/20 is brilliant cos its so fast. Guys like Gilchrist can just bat for the hell of it. Watched a couple of games back in the Uk and people who normally thought cricket was staid and boring quite got into it because of the frantic speed.

Spelling completely wrong, his shirt said 'Church' on the back (all the Aussies had their nicknames, the printable ones, on the back in the spirit of the 20/20 game). The English commentators on Sky had no idea why Church. I wondered - Christ; then I wondered whether he liked 'The Church', Under the Milky Way and all that. Did the Aussie commentators say why?

Gilly plays test cricket, 50 overs, 40 overs, 20 overs in the same way! I bet England wished they could have a #7 with a career average in excess of 50! There's still a lot of miles left in Gilly even though he is of McGrath and Warne vintage.

Gilchrist mentioned that in 1997 (I think he said) while he was signing autographs a fan asked 'are you that Adam Gilchurch?'.

Yes, they asked him and he said that when he first joined the Aus team Waugh asked him if his name was Ed Gilchurch and the name has stuck ever since

Thanks for that, you can sort of see where they were coming from - christ, church. So it could also be Kevin St Pietersen, Richard Strauss and make what you will of Hussey. I hadn't thought about Strauss on one side and Hayd(e)n on the other before and of course each bat has a Handel(le)!

And when he gets into his stride he is fantastic to watch. He's one of those players that makes me hold my breath till he's got going though - gets out too often on silly scores before he gets settled - bit like Ponting. Get homm past 25, and he improves.
