It is true that people would require a bit of familiarisation with p2p clients before they could be used. If a person can competently use XP Explorer (not Internet) than they can establish an FTP connection to an ftp/sftp server using this also, without having to download 3rd party software. All they would need to do is type the following into the address bar:

ftp://ftp_servername

at which point they would be prompted for a password and user. Then they would simply navigate around the server in the same way that they do on their local machine (including copying to-and-from).

The problem still remains that some people are trying to reduce their file sizes due to usage allowances, hence the conversation about video encoding (compression in essence).

the files are sony handycam mpg files and some are only 50 mb's in size but want to send longer clips if possible, anything over 5mb and the windows encoder freezes.
