Re: Scottish?
I'm Chinese but get told I have an Irish or Scottish accent all the time by Aussies here. My American friends think I sound English. My British friends usually can pick up the North American accent. A few people I've met actually asked if I had lived in Canada when I was younger.
I've had a few Australians asking if I've lived in this country long and I tell them only 3 years. The response is usually "You've learnt to speak English quite well for such a short time." "Well, thanks very much. I tried very hard." :p During my recent trip to see family and friends in Hong Kong, one of my best friends said my accent had turned a lot less American and more, erm... She couldn't locate my new accent. It wasn't Australian and she knew because she spent a few years in Sydney when she was in school. I only have my Scottish?/Irish? husband to blame. :p Mrs JTL |

Re: Scottish?
I get Irish, Welsh or sometimes English which I really take offense at. I tell them that I am Australian (well since 2007) and surely they can understand my Australian accent.
