They get confused, bless em..........put me next to a Scottish person and i sound absolutely nothing like one. I can't understand the confusion really.

Re: Scottish?
I get called everything, cos I deserve it! I'm Scots with an Irish accent.
So if anyone wants to buy me a pint today, yes I'm Irish, Happy St Patricks day.
If you want to discuss Northern Irish politics. Sorry can't help, I'm Scots.
If you want to call the Scots deep fried mars bar eating drunken louts, thats alright. I'm Australian.
If you want to call the Aussies backwards or selfish, no problem, I'm Irish. Now wheres that pint?

Re: Scottish?
Poms keep asking me if I'm South African.
When I ask them if they actually know any South Africans, 9 times out of 10 the answer is "No. But you sound just like one".

Re: Scottish?
Yup, Scottish with twangs of American becomes Irish!
The best response I ever got to telling someone I was from Scotland was : you speak really good English!!
Don't know about your Irish pints Jackthelad, happy St P's Day, but I'll have a whisky if you're offering!
