My wedding ended up at about 500 quid.

Ours was done on the cheap as well, but a really nice day. My wife's dress was originally priced £500 or £600, but got it for £10 after it was discounted several times - and had it adjusted for free by someone we knew (my suit cost more than the dress, but that was from an M&S outlet store so not expensive). Food was prepared by people we knew rather than caterers, so all we had to pay for was the actual food cost. The reception hall was free to us. We had about 80 guests.
