Is Santander Bank guaranteed?

Is Santander Bank guaranteed?
It crossed my mind that as Alliance & Leicester is now owned by the Spanish Santander, that my deposits may no longer be guaranteed by the British government.
Does anyone know what the situation is?

Ozhappy is correct - it doesn't really matter who owns it, just where it's registered e.g. Clydesdale Bank is owned by National Australia Bank but it's still covered by the UK guarantees.
But by the same token, just because your bank is British owned, it wouldn't mean it is protected e.g. if you had an account with Barclays/LloydsTSB/whoever in Jersey/Dubai/wherever. (I don't know if Alliance & Leicester had an offshore banking business - I'm just saying).
