Sand in swimming pool!

It was blown in there a year ago and we are slowly getting it out.
Obviously the problem being that its so small it goes through the filter and back into the pool again.
We have flocked it several times and vacced it to waste. The only problem being that as soon as the vac head hits the sand, it lifts it into the water. So anything that is lifted goes around the filter...again...and again...
We have started using the net thingos on the skimmer basket which is actually helping a bit as the sand gets trapped in the bigger stuff so can be dragged out.
However this is costing us a fortune in flocker and now we have algy on the sides that the bloody sand is sticking to:sneaky:
We only have 4 weeks to get this sorted so can anyone help? Any ideas? All of the salt/ acid/ buffer levels are perfect and untill you swim in it the water is perfectly clear (with sand on the floor!)

There must be something wrong with your filter. It should filter out sand.

So the pool shop says...I think it might be the sand causing algy to form under it..

We have a filter with those crystals in it...like at the swimming baths. Apparently the sand just goes through it because its so fine:confused:
Everything is working apparently

Its just getting harder to vac to waste because we've had no rain for nearly 6 weeks and we are on tank water...

I'll ask the question re the filter though thanks :)

When we lived in Geraldton we had a problem with sand as it is windy there most of the day. The creepy crawly took good care of it. Have you back-washed your filter out?

You have my full sympathy. My filter seems to be on a go slow this year. The water looks beautiful until I start the cleaner :curse:

I lived in Gero too, jeeze THAT was sandy:lol:
Yes I backwash it out as and when it needs it and it says its fine. I've ever "regenerated" the crystals by adding a whole bag of salt into the neck of the filter (pain in the arse job if ever there was one!)
Re the creepy crawly..it keeps falling off BECAUSE of the sand:curse:

My oh (my poolman ) says it sounds as though your creepy crawly doesn't have enough suction.

We put a net ( $6 a pack from big W ) over the skimmer basket, traps all the small particles, even sand which we get plenty of. Should work.

yep, have started using them and there is sand in there everyday. (but just not ENOUGH!) So do you empty them, throw them, leave them?
