Sand in swimming pool!
It was blown in there a year ago and we are slowly getting it out.
Obviously the problem being that its so small it goes through the filter and back into the pool again. We have flocked it several times and vacced it to waste. The only problem being that as soon as the vac head hits the sand, it lifts it into the water. So anything that is lifted goes around the filter...again...and again... We have started using the net thingos on the skimmer basket which is actually helping a bit as the sand gets trapped in the bigger stuff so can be dragged out. However this is costing us a fortune in flocker and now we have algy on the sides that the bloody sand is sticking to:sneaky: We only have 4 weeks to get this sorted so can anyone help? Any ideas? All of the salt/ acid/ buffer levels are perfect and untill you swim in it the water is perfectly clear (with sand on the floor!) |

There must be something wrong with your filter. It should filter out sand.
Everything is working apparently Its just getting harder to vac to waste because we've had no rain for nearly 6 weeks and we are on tank water... I'll ask the question re the filter though thanks :) |
Re: Sand in swimming pool!
Have you tried a Brita Filter? :D

Re: Sand in swimming pool!
When we lived in Geraldton we had a problem with sand as it is windy there most of the day. The creepy crawly took good care of it. Have you back-washed your filter out?

Yes I backwash it out as and when it needs it and it says its fine. I've ever "regenerated" the crystals by adding a whole bag of salt into the neck of the filter (pain in the arse job if ever there was one!) Re the creepy crawly..it keeps falling off BECAUSE of the sand:curse: |

You have my full sympathy. My filter seems to be on a go slow this year. The water looks beautiful until I start the cleaner :curse:
Our pool looks ace...till anyone swims in it and stirs up the piggin sand:curse: |

Re: Sand in swimming pool!
We put a net ( $6 a pack from big W ) over the skimmer basket, traps all the small particles, even sand which we get plenty of. Should work.

Re: Sand in swimming pool!
yep, have started using them and there is sand in there everyday. (but just not ENOUGH!) So do you empty them, throw them, leave them?

Re: Sand in swimming pool!
I also don't think you are grasping the magnitude of the sand in question. I reckon I could use it for a sand sculpture..
Heres one I made earlier http://www.frankston.vic.gov.au/Even...ton/index.aspx Basically, the week Matt was taken ill we had two cubic meters of sand delivered on which to pave round the pool. It was (stupidly) left in hummocks of about 3 foot tall around the pool edge. After Matts incarceration...opps hospital stay, the sand had virtually all blown away.....INTO THE SODDING POOL:curse: |

I wash them (under a tap not in a washing machine) and re-use them until they get ripped.
As you can tell, its driving me nuts. I'll take some pics and post them later, I have to go to work. Thanks everyone:thumbsup: |

He's probably right, but having just spent a hideous amount on a new salt chlorinator buying a new creepy crawly for tennants is a no no:blink:
No wonder its gone on strike |
Re: Sand in swimming pool!
LOL, I backwash it as soon as the needle touches the red, normally every couple of weeks.
HOWEVER! I just went and did it and it was the best one in ages, the glass ball thing was nearly black! I'm thinking that the regeneration thing has finally made its way around the system and has kicked in big time. I'm going to leave the filter on all day as I just vacced to waste too, then when I et home top it up and backwash again. The net thingo in the skimmer basket is 1/4 full of sand, but I can't get the basket out! In a hurry and have to get to work.. Thanks for everyones help so far:thumbsup: |

Re: Sand in swimming pool!
Being still in the Uk and having no experience with pools can you not get the water sucked/drained out, leave the pool to totally dry out and then brush or vaccuum the sand out??? Is this possible?

Get one of these for about 400 bucks, this will catch the sand before it reaches the filter and save you water in the process, we're getting one with our new pool.

Not with the water restrictions, no;) Its about 60,000 gallons of water:ohmy:
To get the nets out, I usually take out the whole basket. It is hard to get the nets out by themselves when they are fully clogged. :) |
