Rego - what is this..... and does it need to be renewed.....

Rego is like road tax. The amount you pay depends on your car and engine size. It also includes insurance which is to cover any injury to other people in the event of a crash. It doesn't cover their car (or you or your car).
You can buy it for 3/6/9 or 12 months at a time, and yes it has to be renewed.

... and (in WA anyway) if you don't keep your rego up to date you end up havng to "go over the pits" i.e. and inspection like an MOT which over 50% of all cars on WA's roads would fail.

Most insurance companies will not honour your insurance either if your vehicle is not registered, watch out for the small print
If you drive your vehicle unregistered be prepared for large fines, if the rego is more that a month overdue you could be looking at around $1000 for various tickets
