This is simply more proof that Britain's gone to the dog's.

All logically thinking goes out of the window when you suffer with depression, and you don't think about what hurt you are causing to the people around you. All you want to do is to stop your own suffering.
If he has committed suicide (not been confirmed that I can see) then I not only feel for his family who have to pick up the pieces but for the suffering he went through before making this tragic decision. I wouldn't condone a person for it as unless you have lived in their head and gone through what they go through you can not judge the decisions he made. Its a terrible shame that he didn't get the help he needed to avoid this.

Have some respect for his family and friends who are mourning him, and remember there may well be some of them on BE. Those of us who have lost loved ones to suicide know only too well the pain, confusion and grief that results from the act, and we can do without some of the heartless comments being bandied around.
Cut it out please, as Sue requested earlier.

Hardly. It'll be whatever the media wants us to know.
I dont think its very fair to criticise Gary Speed over taking his own life. Noone knows what goes on in another mans mind. Unfortunately people are too quick to make up their minds on what they believe happened.

Personally I don't care to read all the other crap in the media.

Thoughts are with the family.

I understand humour, and making light of a situation, but come on folks. Someone took their own life and personally I think it's a little too early for tasteless jokes.
Suicide isn't funny for those that are left behind, particularly when it's so fresh. And full disclosure, it's hard for me to be unbiased having had a family member take her life, so I couldn't sit by and watch some of the rather tasteless remarks I've seen being posted.
So fair dues, if you are going to joke ok, but at least wait for the dust to settle a little eh?
Thanks

Can you see a tabloid newspaper Editor saying "Hold off with that story Mr Journo we need to let the dust settle a bit"

I am a member of a few other message boards, some football specific and a few other general ones and some comments in here are some of the most tasteless I have come across.
I don't care if those certain posters call me a boring chunt and have no sense of humour or just 'don't get it'.
