It makes me think of the girl at my daughters school that suffered for years with things going on in her family before killing herself. Most of her friends did not know how bad things were until afterwards.

Has it been established that it was suicide?

Not necessarily. The problem with proper depression/mental illness is that it can't really be linked in a logical way to anything tangible going on in ones life. Its something that goes a lot deeper than that.

I understand humour, and making light of a situation, but come on folks. Someone took their own life and personally I think it's a little too early for tasteless jokes.

Suicide isn't funny for those that are left behind, particularly when it's so fresh. And full disclosure, it's hard for me to be unbiased having had a family member take her life, so I couldn't sit by and watch some of the rather tasteless remarks I've seen being posted.

So fair dues, if you are going to joke ok, but at least wait for the dust to settle a little eh? ;)

Thanks

The guy was a selfish wanker, he took the cowards way out. Leaving two young innocent children without there dad and a shattered family. Cruel and selfish.

whilst I wouldn't put it as harsh as that mate cos depression is an ugly illness, at the end of the day I agree if he did hang himself and leave a wife and kids then it is the most selfish act:(

Whatever was the cause it'll no doubt all come out in the wash and for his family it's a very, very sad time. We should respect them and their sad loss.

RIP is the very least we can offer.

All logically thinking goes out of the window when you suffer with depression, and you don't think about what hurt you are causing to the people around you. All you want to do is to stop your own suffering.

If he has committed suicide (not been confirmed that I can see) then I not only feel for his family who have to pick up the pieces but for the suffering he went through before making this tragic decision. I wouldn't condone a person for it as unless you have lived in their head and gone through what they go through you can not judge the decisions he made. Its a terrible shame that he didn't get the help he needed to avoid this.

RIP Gary Speed

Hardly. It'll be whatever the media wants us to know.

I dont think its very fair to criticise Gary Speed over taking his own life. Noone knows what goes on in another mans mind. Unfortunately people are too quick to make up their minds on what they believe happened.

I get the feeling something might be about to come out of the closet on this one. Maybe he has been a very naughty boy, something just doesn't add up.

But is that hope or is it fear? People often seem to want to hear the worst when its someone they dont know as its juicy and gives many hours of gossip.
