Default Reclaiming tax in the UK

The company that is shipping over boxes for me will also look at my tax situation and assess whether I have overpaid to the inland revenue (I definatey have). They will charge 12% for this which I think sounds pretty reasonable (I've heard of other companies charging 40%).

So, does this sound like a good deal or is it just as easy to do it yourself?

If you definately have overpaid why would you need a company to assess it?

I'd go to the direct.gov.uk website and download the form myself and save myself the 12%

Download form P85 from the Tax website (hmrc.gov.uk), fill it in, send to HMRC, wait for the money.

Possibly not worth a 12% cut. I'll do it for 5 :-)

Cheers

Just do it yourself. I'm the least financially savvy person I know and I managed it!

How long did you wait for your money ?
I submitted mine in January and the last letter I received (mid June) stated they were updating their computer systems. I phoned at the beginning of August and they stated my details were incorrect (sent and acknowledged by the June letter) hence I failed security. A complaint letter has been sent.....

I am still waiting
I'm thinking of sending the tax office a birthday card on the anniversary.

Anyone else been waiting for 10 months ?

Sounds like a horribly long time, I'd be sending them something but I don't think it'd be a birthday card
