Default Re Entry Visa to Australia

We went into Adelaide today as our passport had run out and so we needed to get a re entry visa on our new ones, wait for it, we were charged a whopping $480 for the two of us, the reason was, they have put the price up so more people will get citizenship, so word of warning get your citizenship as soon as you can, its a lot cheaper

That's the same price as Citizenship! Oh my word - I thought it was about a $100 or something. Glad I'm going for Citizenship now!

They increased it recently. Only thing is if you go for citizenship instead you then have the price of the passport on top.

A UK passport costs $ 268.88 plus re entry visa $240 so its $ 508.88 per person, I don`t think you can win either way, citizenship might be a tad cheaper

Its shocking

I have a couple of questions?

1) You have your PR visa, stamped or stickered in your current passport, it is validated in the same passport, so, now you have say four years to make Australia your permanent home etc. This passport runs out say two years later, so you are in the UK still, you get your new passport through from the UK authorities, but your new passport has no visa or validation stamp in it; how does this affect you and what do you need to do?

2) You make Australia your permanent home four and a half years after gaining your PR visa, so you enter Australia, with just six months left on your passport as your latest entry date. You stay in Australia for a year or so, but you leave for a month due to a deceased relative, you now want to return back to your new country you call home Australia, but you PR visa is no longer valid, you are not a citizen, and you have only spent one year living in Australia as a permamnet resident. Can things get difficult for you, if so what are the answers?

Cheers Keith!

Hi Keith,

1 - You can get a new visa label stuck in your new passport - just pop down to the local Immigration department with you old and new passport and they will do it for you (it's free).

2 - You would have to apply for a RRV before you leave the country. http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/residents/155/index.htm

1. I'd imagine you'd have to send your passport to London.

2. If there is doubt about your australian residency status you may be granted a 3 month RRV rather than another 5 years.

Cheers BC, nice one!

It would be an absolute nightmare if;

You were in Australia for one year, had to leave for say three months, visa had ran out, you had bought a house, you had put down roots, and they will not let you stay as a PR on your return. All of a sudden things look pretty tricky!

If you have ties like that to Aus they will almost certainly consider you settled. You would definitely get a 3 month RRV and there's a poretty good chance of the full 5 years.

Do you mean Liverpool UK? Or NSW? Or somewhere else...
