Random acts of kindness...
In a harried world, a random act of kindness can make someone's day.
Particularly if the person involved is a stranger. What was a memorable random act of kindness you performed or benefited from? |

The barman came outside and told me that the hobo hanging around the pub sneaks up on people and gulps down their drink while they're not looking. I thought I was very kind that day for not bashing the hobo's brains out. :D |

A total stranger walked up to us and asked us where we lived and offered to take the four sun loungers in his estate car and with us leading in our car drive to our place. The thought did cross our mind that he might just drive off with nearly $1,000 worth of sun loungers, but he didn't. He followed us in our car - we live about ten minutes away from the store - and dropped them off at our house. How nice was that! |

Sam, on this site, sent me some English chocolates in the mail... unrequested but very much appreciated! Thank-you Sam. :)
Once, I saw an old lady walking along the street really struggling with her bags. I turned my car around and offered her a lift home. When we got there she thanked me and said I was an angel. Truth is, she made my day. |
Re: Random acts of kindness...
I seem to help people who are lost from time to time, either accompanying them to where they want to go or sometimes driving them there. Directions as a minimum even in place I don't live. I can remember some Americans in Paris being very doubtful when I told them to get on a train called Nora if they wanted to get from Versailles to Paris. :D

Re: Random acts of kindness...
found a wallet on the road yesterday with @ least $200 inside ,found the address on the DL and took it round to the persons house
I have had many random acts of kindness done for me and am a great believer in paying forward |
Re: Random acts of kindness...
I sold my scooter in England to a young Australian couple who had just moved to London. But because we were going away on holiday, I had them pick it up from a friends house. It had full tank, but because I had to ride it to my friend's house it had used a tiny bit of petrol.
They fetched the scooter but made the casual comment that the tank wasn't completely full (It only takes a few litres). Anyway on my return, my friend told me this, so I sent the couple a £10 note in the post with no letter or anything, just wrapped in paper. A full tank only cost about £7 then. I emailed them a few days later to apologise and asked if they got the money. The girl said she was completely stumped as to who would just send them £10 in the post. She said I was kind and it wasn't necessary and that I should never send cash in the mail. I had also put a few cans of XXXX (that's beer ;)) under the seat for them to celebrate with when they got home. |
Re: Random acts of kindness...
My wife lost her purse one day with cash and cards in etc...
A man phoned her later and said he had found it. He came and delivered to our house with nothing missing. |

Truth is, she made my day. Know exactly what you mean. Years ago I made a resolution to help a total stranger a least once a week. There are plenty of people who need a hand. Sometimes I've been taken advantage of but it wont stop me helping others. Get into it!!! it's good for the soul:thumbup: |

Re: Random acts of kindness...
I met a couple (next door neighbour) a few weeks back here on a student visa with 3 kids struggling their arses off.Anyhoo I had only been here 3 months myself but I knew they were taking strain financially so I invited them around for a slap up dinner. They had been craving a UK curry so I dusted off my recipe books and conjoured up a Lamb bhuna, chicken tikka masala, homemade naan bread and riata.A great night was had by all and she now calls me Delia Smith !

"my dad built that house and we grew up there" so i invited him in and he told us all the history of the house...he was quite emotional by the end of it,,obviously brought back a few memories of his parents.. so anyway he tells me he was looking for an old monitor for his p.c...in the curbside collection..so i gave his a flatscreen the babies dont use anymore...he was well chuffed... later in the day theres a knock at the door, its him, with photos of the house, the original plans,,and the original contract.. 5496 buck it cost to build our house.... |

Re: Random acts of kindness...
There's a few times I've had those acts come back & bite me:
An elderly lady once asked me if I would "Use up the rest of those tiles" by tiling over her vanity. I pointed out it was totally impracticable as the existing surface was peeling, loose paint with rotten timber behind, I explained there must be a leak. She couldn't pay me anything but "would I still just tidy it up, the leak had been fixed" I caved in did the job, then, 6 months later, I'm back there because the free tiling I did had come unstuck & her son threatened to ring the QBSA. He even wanted me to compensate him for having to ring me & a plumber to fix the leak:sneaky: |

Re: Random acts of kindness...
I lost my wallet in Victoria Sq, Christchurch (NZ) while on lunchbreak.
Wasn't even aware I'd lost it until the local police station called me to report that a tourist had picked it up and handed it into them. I managed to track down the guy and sent him a thank-you letter  |
Re: Random acts of kindness...
Of the many things I have done I recall I was once in a queue behind a little girl who was buying ice lollies and didnt have enough money so I made up the rest of the amount. And I've given a lift to a young asian girl who signalled to me to stop, I advised her to be careful as not everyone is trustworthy. I like to live up to my reputation ( self made) of nicest member!;)

Re: Random acts of kindness...
Not something that happened to me but something that happened to my dad.
He was driving up to Monkey Mia when he ran out of fuel. A very kind couple stopped, asked him if he was ok and providing him and his then wife with water, drove him to the nearest petrol station and then drove him back to the car so they could continue on their journey. |

Re: Random acts of kindness...
I have been looking after my next door neighbours puppy for 3 weeks while they had their bathroom renovated - I offered and it really was no trouble.
Yesterday my neighbour came round with a $100 gift voucher to say thank you, I did not expect that at all.:o Last week I found someones bank/credit card - I think they had just lost it as it was in line with people waiting to withdraw money at the ATM so I returned it to the bank. Mr PP also found a card last week and did the same, we have also returned a couple of wallets with money it - although how anyone could hang on to someones purse and spend the money is beyond me - if it can be returned then bloody return it, I guess some people have no morals. Cant think of anything else. |

I found her in the shops and returned her card to her. She was so grateful. Well, what would anyone do otherwise? Tim Hortons random acts of kindness...there's been a couple of times in the drive through that by the time I got to the window to pay, the worker says, "the person in front paid for your order." :D Also, my then four year-old daughter used to go up to the counter in store to buy timbits (um, donut holes to the rest of you) and there were a few occasions that some adult behind her thought that was so sweet and paid for her treats. We joked that she had quite a racket going and should see if anyone would not only pay for her little bag of timbits but her parents' lunch as well...:p |

Well, after I gave them the details (bus number, what time it was), they called me back asking me to verify what I told them (yeah, yeah), turns out that bus wasn't supposed to be on the road that day, the driver shouldn't have been anywhere near my stop at that time (he was either running really late or early), so they had a few questions for the driver when he got back.:o |

Re: Random acts of kindness...
Driving up a long hill near Béziers (France) we decided to pick up an old woman who had tonnes of shopping. For most of the trip all she did was complain about the English and how it always rained in England. When we dropped her off she gave up a manky tea-towel as a thank-you. :D
