This rain...QLD

Re: This rain...QLD
My daughter has just come back from the Gold Coast swimming camp- horribly sunburned on her back, as the mates she trusted to cream her did a poor job. (She didn't mention any rain!!!)
It is quite wet here in Sydney too- going to drain some water out of the pool in a bit.......
The area around her straps looks like she has burned herself in the oven, and the rest is scaly and tomato red. I'm creaming it, but not sure what else to do. Any tips?

The school was closed at 10! Local river runs fairly close and it's likely to flood across the road before the day is out. That hasn't happened since 2005.

Creek out back is getting up a bit too. Husband insists it won't flood.

Rain seems to have eased but you can never be too prepared.

My daughter doesn't do Fridays but apparently they're open but the river's coming up again so they're saying don't worry if you can't get in. According to the reports it's going to continue next week as well. Not looking good if it does.

It's definitely the wettest I've known. We've got areas that flood fairly often obviously but there are some random places totally underwater that apparently have never gone under before. Strangely I don't remember it raining that much in Jan 06 which was not long after we arrived. Memory's a funny thing.

The creek was about a metre from breaking it's banks and heading for the house yard a couple of days ago but within a couple of hours it was down to the 'high but normal' state again.
Talk of a monsoonal trough heading our way ... I'm no weather expert but that's a hint to keep the sandbags handy in my book ... Available soon.

+1 absolutely... Its just a bit of rain and in 2 weeks time it'll be all forgotten about again... until NEXT time it rains.. and then the scare mongering will start all over again.
I did have a journey from The Gap to Kenmore abandonned today because Gap Creek road was about 1m deep and very fast flowing - not even the Prado/Pajero set were getting through that.
I also had an interview in Bowen Hills where I had struggled to get to the reception of the place I was going because the water was about 20cm deep across the footpath in front of the building (I demonstrated some creative resourcefull thinking to get in thanks to a passing taxi driver)!
None of this is terribly unusual though for a proper Brisbane summer, and you'd expect at least one event of this magnitude quite frequently. I've lost count of the number of times over the years the news has reported people havign cars washed away by floodwater around Breakfast creek, or Toombul, or Wooloongabba... or... <insert any suburb with low lying parts and a creek>

Sunday apparently, will bring lots of rain. Not as bad a last year though.

Schools back to normal today but everywhere still completely soaked. Grass areas are a no go.

A fence started going up last week and now there's a poor horse in there in the mud. It does have a raincoat though.
