The young disabled Iranian guy, the cancer lady, the broken neck and jail dude, the girls whose dad died when she was 15, the transgender guy. I don't think it's the contestants that play it up, it's the producers of the show, they try and generate voter sympathy for their favourites. They did it with that d*ckhead Ayltian last year and he won. I'd prefer if they gave limited coverage to their personal lives and let them win the public over with their talent and personality (which a lot of them with sad stories would do anyway because they're often the most down to earth and likeable).

The Iranian guy got through because he could sing... until he got knocked out. I don't think they've put anyone through for sympathy but you're right, the camera work and editing really plays on it. I'm glad I didn't see it last year.
Don't know Ayltian but his name puts me off...
Some of the kids this year seem really talented... two of the groups are amazing.

They put through most of my favourites tonight, haven't watched the last group yet as I had to go pick up my husband from a function so will have a look shortly and check which oldies made it through.

Family probs- dad with terminal cancer and sister on antidepressants with the strain of looking after him- he is now in hospital and quite mad. Mum has just recovered from very bad shingles and an eye op, MIL also has just had 3 days in hospital with heart problems.
My own health- MS and now got the start of another infection thanks to the kiddies at work who insist on sharing their germs. Also bruised from where I fell.
Money worries- have had to put off eye op as I can't afford to have that and fly back to the UK if needed for either parent.
..and NO UK chocolate to help either.

So, have we stopped caring now?
Is there a calendar for these things so I can plan in advance?

I find spending some quality time really not giving a shit for anyone but myself very invigorating.
It recharges the batteries for the majority of the time where I can pass for a compassionate member of society.

Perhaps the special day will make us all care more, then days like this will become redundant. Except I care the same amount as I did before. So perhaps it hasn't worked....
