A question for a clever person
Come on you brainy expats, see if ya can answer me a question.
There has been a lot of talk about the moon lately, with it being 40 years since the first moon landing. It got me thinking, and my question is this. I live in Brisbane and if i looked up at the moon during the day and saw a quarter of the moon, would a friend of mine in the UK look up and see the three quarters that i CAN'T see? Or would he see the same as me. My head hurts just thinking about it :( Jazzys |

So ya reckon they'd see exactly the same portion but upside down?

Re: A question for a clever person
You'll be lucky to get an answer for that now that you have narrowed down your target audience to clever folks!

according to the other thread ;) |
Re: A question for a clever person
Two locations on the Earth that share the same latitude would see the moon in the same phase and same orientation, but not at the same time. But if you view the moon from two locations that share the same latitude, and at the same local time (using the time zone of their location) the moon would look the same.

UK and Aus moon appearance would not quite be the same as upside down. Spain would have the exact upside down view to Aus as it is directly on the opposite side of the world to Aus |

I realised that my explanation did not quite anwer the question. In short Kporte is correct. The same phase is visible by every location on earth at the same local time. However the placement of that phase is different based on the different latitude locations.

Thanks broad shoulders. I believe somewhere west of the canary islands is the direct antipode of brisbane. so if i was to be sailing through that spot, would the exact same quarter be visible but upside down?
