Re: Queensland - Redneck ?
It really does feel like the state is going to backwards, things like the same sex relationships law which were pulling Queensland forward into the "modern world" being binned without a second thought....even someone like me, with no interest in politics, can see the damage thats being done very very quickly. Years of moving forward undone in a few minutes
Lots of decent folk in Qld.

It varies from place to place...
Similarly look hard at UK - theres a big difference between living in a sleepy commuter village near Guildford, a council estate in Reading and a little farming community in North Yorkshire.
(No disrespect intended to any residents or former-residents of ANY of the aforementioned areas)

Re: Queensland - Redneck ?
I'd guess that for areas with an equivalent cost of housing, Sydney is probably far more bogan/redneck than Brisbane - BUT that may be based on house price notions that are several years out of date - its possible that Brisbane housing has 'caught up' with Sydney nowadays....
(Of course if you're moving from outer-SW-Brisbane to inner North Shore Sydney then the reverse is true and your preconceptions may be backed up by your observations. Just be aware however, that you may not be comparing 'apples' with 'apples'!)
