2) fill in postal vote form stating 'I do not agree with compulsory voting'
3) Put in mail box and ignore entire election procedure and reports.

1) request postal vote form just in case you are working during the short time they allow in polling booths ( I have to do this every time due to roster changes)
2) fill in postal vote form stating 'I do not agree with compulsory voting'
3) Put in mail box and ignore entire election procedure and reports.

Ignoring elections - that's clever advice in a democracy

Also, while on the subject of QLD, how come everywhere is shut at 7:30pm? I've had to take my folks to a shitty RSL for dinner tonight because it was quite literally the only thing in town open.
Is this the normal state of affairs?

I'm in QLD at the moment and it looks like all towns have some sort of mayoral election going on.

I don't have many political views, makes me the perfect public servant, but I do not, and never will, agree with compulsory voting.

Well, I received a personalised letter from Lord Mayor Quirk today, so I may just vote for them.

And I sealed up my ballot papers. I don't want to get fined, so I will return them, with written additions
as I really do think compulsory voting is not right in a democratic country.

As I'm replying to several posts I won't quote
Not voting in a democracy is ridiculous, pathetic and counter productive. Vested interests, lobby groups etc set the agenda and get their way when the electorate is apathetic and politicians become less accountable. If you don't vote, you can't complain when decisions are made on your behalf that you disagree with. I'm no fan of Obama but what he says about this is spot on - the NRA, for example, have so much influence because few people vote, yet so many of those who don't vote are against their current firearm setup. Bizarre
Nobody can have no political ideas or beliefs. It's impossible
Our grandfathers fought, bled and died to give us this right. I know for much of the modern western world this means little (as seen on BE), but it does to me
Compulsory voting is immaterial and a non-excuse

It would appear none of us can vote.
Contacting the electoral role, they have of own free will and accord moved us to various addresses.
They info share with so many govt departments, and have no bloody idea where we live! Just because you rent an apartment for your student thats not necessarily where you live too. Just because you take temp accom near a project weekdays does not mean its your perm residence. And no nobody shares with rental tenants. Thank you but why one family member disappeared from QLD and Victorian electoral rolls is a total mystery. He was alive and well just half hour ago.
No doubt in a few weeks will get fines for not voting

I pre poll voted on Wednesday so I could have the weekend off with my O/H. In my electorate we had a card for Mayor and a card for our divisional candidate then a separate paper to chose yay or nay for 4 yr fixed terms.
I hadn't made my mind up about the mayor until I saw the bloke I may have voted for roar away from the polling station with a "F*%k off we're full" sticker on his bumper next to his very naff personal plate and his chromed truck nuts.
Fixed term elections seem to be the way to go, no going early because you won a war etc.
