QLD the thick state - How true?
Someone from Brisbane was telling me that QLD comes bottom of the Australian education ranks. Anyone know why and what sort of ranking this is? How good is education resourcing there (cue ABC Stats)?

Anecdotal hearsay on this forum suggests that Qld has the worst education system of all the states. Something I'm a little concerned about.

eg: Each year the NAPLAN tests are carried out for years 3, 5, 7 and 9, and comparison results are publicised for each State. Here is an example for the 2008 results for year 3
Note the difference in age and number of years schooling between Queensland and the rest of the country, combined with the lower score for QLD, when compared to most states. However, when you compare the private schools, where they start earlier, you do see different results. I will post those when I locate them, I have them on my site somewhere... :fingerscrossed: |
Re: QLD the thick state - How true?
Does QLD have less pupils going on to tertiary education? Or acheiving high results in Yr12?

Re: QLD the thick state - How true?
I knew I would find it after I stopped looking too hard....
2008 NAPLAN year 7. (my daughters year, and showing her school as an example) Year 7 NUMERACY 557.0 Faith Lutheran College, QLD 556.2 ACT 552.3 VIC 551.3 NSW 544.9 Australian Average 538.8 Qld 536.2 SA 534.0 WA 533.8 Tas 489.3 NT READING 558.2 ACT 543.0 Vic 543.0 Faith Lutheran College, QLD 542.5 Nsw 536.6 Australian Average 534.2 Tas 533.5 SA 528.1 Qld 527.3 WA 470.9 NT The Faith Lutheran children have almost all done the same amount of school years as the rest of the country, other than QLD state schools, and do appear to be older on average than QLD State school children for the same years. Hence the results are much more comparable to the rest of the country. |
